  1. Call me suspicious, but I always get that way when I see comments like 25% fuel saving.
  2. So a penny is worth about 70c these days
  3. The 14V is your key to what is working. If you start the engine and the Volts rise to 14, then the battery is being charged.
  4. Yet another media story poorly written, so I would not take a lot for gospel. Like "a huge area to search" and yet he had a beacon. And yet still didn't find him till 5PM? So I suggest the story is far from accurate. I do love the "urged his wife to call Coastguard". I can just imagine it. "Umm dear, would you mind giving CG are a quick call? Your watching home and away? well what about at add break dear?? You aren't sure you can fit making a cuppa and making a call all in the one break? "
  5. Seeing as no one has said anything about the electric purifying units, I'll throw my 2 cents in the ring. All I have heard about them is that they are expensive to buy, expensive to maintain, always seem to need some for of maintenance and often found second hand on trademe because they are to troublesome. There are two designs, the older one having been phased out, used an electrical charge to kill the critters in the tank. The newer unit uses an electrical current to create chlorine from the salt water and uses that to kill the critters. The second is apparently better and less issues than t
  6. Would help if I could, but we won't be back down there till end of jan and our car is going across second week of Jan. Not that it would have fitted in the car anyway
  7. Thanks. I coated the Hull yesterday. I stayed away from the PVC. But will look at doing that now after you comment. Ha, as always, I just got half the hull done and over rolled a dark grey cloud and it bucketed down. It came clear for a bot, I wiped dry the other side and finished it, but no sure how well it is going to adhere. Oh well, it just has to last till we get back down the coast.
  8. Morons, but really lucky Morons. We were on the morning ferry Saturday. Jam packed full of AC/DC fans and all of them were getting ready to rock and roll by the glass full. I did see something really interesting though. I don;t think I have ever seen so many people in one spot smoking. Darn never every AC/DC fan was smoking. It thought that was interesting.
  9. Hehe, yeah kind of looking for some other "expert" this time. Someone other than me that has gained experience a mistake. I was hesitant because I used thinners on a PVC inflatable a few years back and the PVC eventually went really weird in the areas it had been used. I had wondered if I had damaged the UV proofing in the PVC. Some didn't want to wreck and fairly new Southern Pacific RIB. Those ultrasound things don't work. But if you do happen to find plant life that can listen int to you at night, give us a heads up. They may be a Marine version of those Tripid things, or its the GCSB in ca
  10. Has anyone had any issues using AF on the PVC material of an inflatable, or know if it is safe or not? It's a Southern Pacific, so good material, but I wasn't sure if the solvent in AF would attack the stuff. I have some hard Petite to paint on if doing so is OK.
  11. Really?? Who's running 121 then?? Really? Why do they not work on stoves? I like the Wallas DrW. Looks very interesting. Pity it didn't run on Diesel. You are right they are pricey though. Mind you, a top of the line Force 10 is getting close to that. Re the rules on Gas....it is my understanding that a flexible hose is only allowed from Gas tank to solid copper line and from other end of copper line to stove. Any long run must be made in Solid Copper Tube. It must also be installed by a registered Gas fitter. You can use flexi hose for a short run (not sure of exact length,) like
  12. Also Reg from 121 marine over Albany direction.
  13. Take someone with experience. That Coast, (like any part of NZ's Coast) can be either a lovely experience, or it can kick you in the A. If you go on a light Southerly, it's ruffly a 24hr trip. A Norwester can be turbulent and unpredictably variable in strength as you move along the coast. There is an area between Kekarengu and Ward that can be really nasty when a strong Norwester or Easterly is blowing. You will often see the entire area covered in White Caps. It's advisable to be some distance offshore around there to avoid it. Which in theory, you should be by then anyway, as a line to Well
  14. Those wonder wash thingies work really well. Not sure if the pressure they naturally build up has anything to do with it or not, but you do not have to rotate the thing for long to get a good wash. They are often seen on Trademe. But we bought a little electric thing, mainly because it was cheap $79, there were none of the wonder wash things for sale at the time and you could leave it to do it's task and it spun dry as well. I see them now with RRP up toward the $400 mark which is plain stupid rediculous and no where near worth it. However, now seeing what they consist of, (and price) I would
  15. Fish, I doubt application would cause much difference with CopperCoat. What would cause differences, would be where the Boat is moored/berthed. Things like water temp, light, nutrients, tidal flow and where in the Country the boat is will all make a difference. And that applies to any AF for that matter. The beauty of CC is in it's simplicity. It is just Pure copper held onto the Hull by Epoxy. Sanding just exposes the pure copper particles and many organisms don't like pure copper. Except for a couple like the growth that is showing in the Pic.That stuff is controlled by a type of Zinc which
  16. Erice, I don't expect you will damage the barrier coat. That would take some doing. Are you using Trilux 33, or one of the Micron CSC or 66 or?? What is your thinking behind coating with AF5 over top? You do need to be careful mixing your drinks like that. They likely use very different additives and more importantly, very different Solvents. That can cause the coatings to not perform as they should. Not saying that is a definite, but certainly possible. Each Coating type relies on different technologies to control the way they erode and different solvents can cause the coating to not cure cor
  17. Cool vid. I hear a Kiwi accent and Ozy accent. Does anyone perhaps know them? http://www.break.com/video/dolphins-seal-and-whale-join-humans-on-fishing-trip-2983184
  18. Hmmm, yeah that should not happen. AF5 is a well proven AF and should be giving you far better protection than that in that short time. I would be asking the Applicator to investigate why it is not working. Don't roll over on this BP. It's a good well proven product and you should make some noise about it. The applicator needs to get to the bottom of why it s not working. If he can't answer, he needs to get the Rep involved. This is their Job as well. Not just selling coatings. They are technical reps and should be able to tell what has gone wrong. You need to get firm enough on this, that you
  19. You are right, there is something wrong there BP. Slime and silt is what I was meaning would build up, but not mussels. How long has it been on? If only months, maybe you need to go back to the person that applied it and ask for a please explain.
  20. Arh so there was a Bitter end then huh? I wondered. I wasn't sure if it would have been connected, but was waiting for something really nasty to happen when the yellow paint shot past. Watching everyone scarper, likely they thought exactly the same.
  21. BP, when you say the AF5 falls off, are you saying that the entire coat just falls away from the Primer? or that it is soft and easy to wash the surface away? You are not supposed to wipe AF5 or any of the Ablatives. They are soft of course and the surface will wipe off. Any of the ablatives will dirty up when a Hull is sitting and where your Boat is moored, I would expect growth to be quite high. It is shallow, warm and lots of nutrients in the water, thus high growth. But your hull should clean itself while underway. Hempels "Olympic" ablative has a micro fibre material that controls the rat
  22. There must surely be a better way of doing this. I would assume the drum is hydraulic powered to haul the chain in, so why don't they use the same to pay it out. http://www.break.com/video/freighter-anchor-chain-gets-loose-2982605
  23. Maybe all the workers have the day off. There are hardly any around. I hope it is not due to much of the manufacturing being robotic.
  24. marinheiro, I love your depth of knowledge. It is really awesome and very interesting to read. One thing about boats above all other man made items, is that they gain a History almost like a Life. It is almost like some thorough bred Horse. Out of such & such, sired by so & so, owned by who & company etc etc. I assume your level of knowledge covers both Power and Sail. I reckon that you should start a thread on Boat History of sorts, where you choose a Boat and then tell us all about Who designed it, why, the ideas it came about from, the builder/s and so on. Then it's performance
  25. Shaft driven are available. This one is stunning. Not sure what you could get price down to. I http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/motorboats/auction-935927026.htm Personally, I like Timber Hulls. There is a "feel" to them you don't get with GRP and a well built glass over ply Hull is just as good as GRP. But if you want GRP, check this one out and it's a good price and a good All round Hull design. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/motorboats/auction-907541640.htm Both those were after a real quick look. There may be many more if you want to have a good search.
