  1. I told Westhaven they are keeping the water in my berth clean and since on the marinas not my hull -nothing to talk about.
  2. Had a couple of people complain that they wanted to buy sailing electronics but none were on display! I believe that B & G were there but hidden behind the usual fish finders etc, Also someone who wished to upgrade his package on a big Riviera, the young Raymarine fellow did not know the equipment being referred to and no follow up call...
  3. They tried it in the 90s -more money in pumping up real estate prices probably. Also boat mortgages -available overseas but not here.
  4. Used on the last few Alloy Yachts projects, in fact kiwi painters have been flown offshore to apply it -not a home product the Aussie agents are good.
  5. It looked to have the makings of a great event , but we did note that at the same time there were single handers racing back towards Richmond and the squadron cruising race with very close racing heading out towards Waiheke, not sure what those Piedy boys were smoking but it hung over Auckland harbour till about 10 yesterday morning.
  6. Well not too many racers, counted 27 with one pulling out within a minute, the multi boys may be disappointed with Mayhem coming in first and a loong way behind was attitude then Superbad and the Rum Bucket.
  7. Interesting observations after a 3 year break, not much yachting equipment in evidence only Sailutions there no Harken Fosters or Kiwi Yachting, both of whom had executive positions within Marine NZ in recent years? No sailing apparel, people were asking where to find it -so I sent them along to Sailors. Large number of boats on the water and great weather -should be good next year booked for a week before Sail GP.
  8. Whoa boys and girls, the Herald article was full of not quite correct stuff, the owner is very tech savvy and had radios bleeper etc-note he only set it off when daylight so that it would be worth searching. The boats anchors did let go and she blew on to the rocks before tide and wind blew her out again, she has electric drives now so they were useless of course in those conditions. He wants to get her back, but I fear that she will wash ashore in far North Queensland like the last one that tipped over in the coastal -should be 8-9 months. The yacht is not his home -another mistake from

And to add as someone who was right on the course for the last AC-this smashes it for yachting quality and proximity. In fact if they are going to do a Netflix doco on yachting as per Drive to Survive, these are the guys for it . The AC rich boys are just too tedious and boring and one little race every 3 years no thanks. Whereas these teams are new exciting plenty of countries and events . If you saw Tuke with the ladies and working with the public for hours after the final as did the other teams you can see and understand the popularity...

Well as someone who flew down to experience what I fully expected to be the only time in Lyttelton, I have come away amazed - superb racing and great organisation, not sure how it could be replicated in Auckland . Grandstands along Westhaven carpark maybe? But there isnt as much room and how do you control people . Northhead good viewing and controllable access. Takapuna Beach nice long area but too shallow. In short the organisers have learnt a great deal from F1 about shifting people (I hate queues) and it worked brilliantly along with the timing of the races, though they could have bee
  11. Oh dear first i have seen of this map , so kohi is allowed but Motuihie not -less distance to go now.😏
  12. Tis indeed a shame that MNZ has approached this in this manner , with the facts as laid out so far and not in dispute the public would have a reasonable expectation of a robust prosecution, with his ticket on hold until the case is heard . He has other skippers to keep the business running.
  13. Oh I dont know, now that the squadron has public welcome signs on the green lawn Bar and are heavily promoting a bottleshop to all, is this a coincidence?
  14. If they can sail I would rather be on the friendly coast ...
  15. And last Friday night up the offramp, little ole water drinker me felt quite smug , though I believe some of the more extreme rum racers resorted to walking
  16. Wondered that myself , more room for my dinghy with them away, we may be seeing Tiny ripping into the harbour tomorrow evening at this rate
  17. The awlwood does seem to last well, but at the cost I prefer to do a coat of West then seven of good varnish, very easy to touch up and I have it on the shelf.
  18. Where the yachties with trainer floats meet or so I am told , and the Classics so they are these days, a fairly broad church.....
  19. It appears that the rich will get richer again if the leaders get around the top tonight, go the little Townson Kauri log.
  20. Yes there has been a large drop in membership, since Team Dalton took the cup and the corporate money that came with it. Of course the club could save a lot by sacking the newly hired doof doof DJs that have been driving the paying members to the other side of the building or away home on a Friday and Sunday afternoon. Sunday afternoon Jazz now thats an idea☠️ Luckily the sailing side of things is continuing well.
  21. I still believe that something has been lost , since those early days-the romance, the adventure, the parties, 29 competitors coming in to Auckland -crews staying on board unless they got lucky ! Not rushing off to the dietician and gym. Four boats currently racing......
  22. If the boats dont break they are clicking off some huge days on the big leg Cape Town -South America 544 NM in a 60' monohull.
  23. Yes unfortunately its a there and back this time, still they may recognise some of the waves.. And it appears that Zest has done her RNI so probably (understandably decided to stay near home)
  24. Might see him coming in to follow the rum race tonight
