  1. HB in the Vendee has similar to DSS foils however the French boats are quite different with their Dali foils and time will tell what is the way to go once they are round the world..
  2. Thanks Booboo, I do recall someone telling me of the inside one -but as I often drop sails there I shall be a bit more careful about it in future
  3. Are they still doing White Island? seemed to be easing herself up the harbour on monday arvo. I see that Wild Oats are doing away with the DSS before Sydney to Hobart, citing that they dont need it and excess weight and complexity.
  4. As the marina says a rough diagram would help all of us avoid issues in the future....
  5. There is a reason why Swans, Amels, Hallberg Rassys are a little dearer than the yachts we refer to here, and why a Kiwi boat built our way costs a lot more too, its called built to last -not just for the first owner.
  6. Happy to sit on one of my Kiwi built and glassed over kauri logs, no styrene smell or holding tank smell down below!!!
  7. Shame for Riou I was picking him as a good long term bet, just shows how tricky it is and how lucky you have to be to keep it all together and make it round at those speeds.
  8. When you say just past, which way are we headed? A drawing would do
  9. Its not the only one, have a look round some other Auckland boatbuilders...
  10. Check out cresting the restless wave by Paul Caffyn, the guy is a legend in sea kayaking done NZ, Aussie , Japan & UK i believe.
  11. Yes I agree, depending on the shape of prop blades locked is better for a yacht, unless you have a large wheel / big disc area prop-which should not be on a sailing boat.
  12. Not floating as well as first hoped??
  13. There is one other thing to consider - if you have a shaft seal that is fed cooling and lubricating water from the engine and you are just freewheeling -this will not be happening . Not too much of a problem in most heavy yachts but on some of the faster lighter ones ...
  14. Yes the golden days of sail, and we could come as sealers or whalers....bloody hard to drag a dead happy teeth up to the front of Richmond though.
  15. You wont have to wait long, Auckland today?
  16. The guys at Ashby's if still there? Or Bluefix boats or Dave Blair a local (good) boatbuilder.
  17. As is the ex owner of Pine Harbour
  18. Yep I remember running along the top of the Kohi seawall with the tide just lapping over it in the late sixties , havent seen that lately.
  19. I have a Kauri boat so definitely will not be bonding skin fittings etc, however I would just like to run a battery charger occasionally and use some wired in power points when I am on the Marina so was going to go down the track of an ewof and use a galvanic isolator (not already there from the previous 230V wiring). Will that not keep the 12V and 230V separate?
  20. Wouldnt put much credence on what she said about three days if she had walked out to the rocks and waved at a ferry (two every half hour) she would have been noticed, mind you the Police said that they had found a wooden dinghy which that seabird is not. If she cant give the police any credible story about how she got there -charge her with being a nuisance.
  21. If you are considering being wired up permanently I would have thought a galvanic isolator is a must, to protect you first and the marina second, not sure why beacon want earth straps through the hull of a light multi though?
  22. Er its quite a swim and you would go to Karaka Bay not Musick point , how she got there is the question? And at this time of year there are kayaks there most evenings
