  1. Deep Purple's Race Report Watching the weather forecast every few minutes all week isn't going to change what happens. Breeze-on. Memories of last year NE pounding at the fore but at least this year South-West and calmer seas or so I we thought..... We launched at Bucklands Beach and timed our arrival at the race area to be just in time to start. Reefed main, #2 Jib (really need a #3 for these days. Safe start and hauled the fantastic #willissails fractional and good speed clearing clearing our fleet and across to mix it with the big guys. Crossed gybes a few times with the Rog
  2. 4 clubs and pissed off no end actually. Totally unfair system. Obviously you should be able to nominate a club, that club collects your levy seperate from their subscription and passes it on to YNZ. YNZ have the data already. Here's my APP info although 2 clubs don't appear on it for some reason. Squaddy and SSANZ. Note I have a different reference number for each club. But how do you make a change. Half a dozen clubs control the voting power of the AGM and they probably don't care. The 3 little clubs I belong to that struggle the most to retain members at a reasonable subscription l
  3. In a similar vein..... Included in each car/motorbike registration fee is a charge for ACC. If you own 3 cars you pay 3 levies yet you can only be hurt in one car at a time. Should you refuse to pay the ACC content of the other 2 cars?
  4. Yep Loaded up and ready to roll tomorrow #breezeon Not quite as windy a forecast as last year and SW instead of NE
  5. Card??? I have an app. Even Morgans now have an alloy chassis
  6. No you have a YNZ issued CLUB membership card Generally only clubs are members of YNZ but you can if you so wish become a personal member. You will still have a join a club though
  7. Yep, the club's levy, not the members
  8. Standard response is that members aren't levied. The club is levied and that it pays loosely based on its membership. As an individual, you aren't a member of YNZ, the club is. Good luck with changing that
  9. Well that was pretty forgettable 470 sailing would have to be the most stupid looking sport at the Olympic these days.
  10. I purchased Jagor's remote horn relay and set it up yesterday. Works so well. I can Bluetooth to the boats stereo so that the countdowns are loud and clear to the race crew and the horn goes all by itself. Magic!!! I haven't set it up with a battery as I only intend to use it in my fizz boat but there is room to do so if I want.
  11. What does the N22 weigh? That trailer looks very light. No diagonals?
  12. Man, what a tough start to the regatta. Boat speed looks good but struggling in the fleet enviroment. Josh Junior could have been pinged several times until the ultimate port starboard that cost him so much close to the first mark. everyone else doing it the hard way too Pete and Blair look quick so I'm picking them to come back strong.
  13. Ha! Motoring back up the river. Harbourmaster would get the pricker if we came in under genny
  14. Had a cannon on the bow that fired potatoes. I remember one day Allan was pacing the marina, brick to his ear. Jenny said he was uptight about the "cottage" next door in Paratai Drive being for sale and development might block his view. She smiled and said she'd bought it but hadn't told him. Had the largest arms collection in NZ and a huge shooting range under the house Both Jennys were the centre of attention back then
  15. Was mainsheet trimmer on Mint owned by John Faire in the early 90's. Fun boats. Many an after-race function on the Dave Giddens skippered Jenny G. Namesake owners wife Jenny Gibbs always turned up with massive food platters and rum.
  16. Always easy to moan but the handicappers got it pretty right. Nothing in there that looks out of whack. For some reason the boats behind finished a lot stronger. If you look at the first half of the fleet that finished on racetrack, they mostly only achieved around 95% of racetrack rating whereas the second half were most above 100%. Maybe the oncoming tide pushed them more, the sea flattened, or maybe they just sailed better
  17. No if you look closely you can see the gennaker tack a few feet forward of the bundle. We hoist and drop from the main hatch.
  18. Yep, tack-line out a couple of feet then halyard to the top between the two lower stays, then tack-line then sheet. Opposite to drop, grab sheet, tack-line away bring tack and clew together, bunch up and drop. Thats all assuming you have space to run flat for hoist and drop. Gennakers only
  19. We had a great race. Nailed a good start going with masthead genny when others held back, seeing that the wind would shift aft well aft before motuhie. Ended up in just behind Rogue 2 and a couple of cruising division big boats. Held our spot across to navy buoy then a smoking reach across to the noisies under masthead then 3/4 kite to take the lead of the whole fleet which we held until almost home bay motutapu. then a ten mile beat to windward in a wind against tide chop and we could do nought but watch big-boat after big-boat pass us. we finished 1st in line in our divis
  20. And very pricey. The issue you may have with that type of pedestal is engaging the cleat in a deepish narrow cockpit. But in a Tasman 20 you probably won't be loading the main so hard that you can't push it in with your foot.
