The stats show ETNZ has higher speeds but greater distance travelled. Would be interesting to see the average VMGs of both boats. They are probably neck and neck.
-
What would happen if they changed the rules so that the boats have to enter the start box 3 or 4 minutes before the start? Would that make the pre-start more interesting?
-
Currently 7 knots on course E. TNZ is foiling. LR have a techinical issue, cannot foil, people on board trying to fix the boat. Wonder if they will call for a 15 minute delay?
-
Looks like it's going to be a close battle.
-
No it is not based on the gusts, it is the average.

The hole where the keel used to be looks scary. Must have hit the rock pretty hard!

Cayard did a Volvo race around 12 years ago. Skippered Pirates of the Caribbean. Did very well in the in-port races. Was in Wellington for the 24 hour pit stop.
-
Also interesting to see footage of Coutts ramming a start boat in a Stewart 34. And to learn that in 92 Rod Davis was sacked as helmsman, and Coutts then took over and lost his first/only 2 races on the helm.

They have twenty two 12 metre yachts racing in Newport, RI, including KZ7 Kiwi Magic!!
-
For anyone who missed this live on TV earlier this week, you can watch it here: https://www.tvnz.co.nz/shows/black-magic-the-team-new-zealand-story/episodes/s1-e1 It's a good recap of ACs from 1983 to 1995, with historical footage and recent commentary from Russel Coutts, Chris Dickson, Jane Dent, Rod Davis and more.

They would have been gone a lot earlier. TNZ tried to ban the Herald in December, but Luna Rossa took control of the media centre for the Prada Cup and allowed NZHerald to stay. Another reason TNZ doesn't like Luna Rossa any more.

Trade-a-boat has one listed: https://www.tradeaboat.co.nz/detail/easterly-yachts-30-829653

Why is Dean Barker wearing a t-shirt with a large "NZ" on it?

Missing yacht Tribe found in bay near Whangarei It was located on Thursday afternoon in Bream Bay about 4 nautical miles (7km) south of Whangarei. That is about 80 nautical miles (150km) north of where it made its Mayday call. The Tribe’s skipper will meet with Maritime NZ staff on Friday to discuss what happened and what lessons can be learned from the incident. https://www.stuff.co.nz/waikato-times/news/124283586/missing-yacht-tribe-found-in-bay-near-whangarei-following-mayday-call-and-search

Is he in NZ? Or just watching remotely in lockdown in Switzerland?
-
Yes, the closure of the Boyd Gallery general store in Whangaroa is a big loss.
-
What we should do, to make it seem really expensive, is take the cost of a 3 year campaign, and divide it by a few 20 minute races! 🙄😆
-
Yes there is now a rahui on Waiheke. You cannot take mussels, scallops, paua or crayfish. Also a new rahui at Opito Bay, you cannot take scallops.
-
You would also not be aggressive if you weren't confident in your own boat.
-
Quite a few DNFs on the Friday, in the small boats. Must have been windy!
-
The commentators reckoned USA would win both races yesterday. How wrong they were!
-
I guess you are asking on behalf of another vessel as ply boats will never be allowed! However modern classics are 1949-1970, built in wood using traditional methods. e.g. Stewarts, Townsons, etc.

And now an article about the circumnavigation in BoatingNZ, with more info about the skipper... "You may recognise Mike’s name as the regular mate aboard Henk Haazen’s remarkable ice-capable steel yacht Tiama. Together they’ve taken many scientific expeditions – DOC ecologists, NIWA and MFAT researchers – to New Zealand’s sub-Antarctic Islands, to the Balleny Islands, the Ross Sea, and Antarctica itself." https://boatingnz.co.nz/solo-circumnavigation/

Looks like junks are popular in Whangarei

YNZ Race Regulations Cat1-Cat5; Anomalies and concerns
ex Elly replied to DrWatson's topic in MarineTalk
You will have a very light boat, since you can now remove all the safety gear!
