  1. I would run with 2 separate lines on your gbe. Much easier to deport mad give options in the takedown and hoist. Can hoist halyard, then tack, no risk of running over the kite. If you pull tack too soon, watch it go under the boat.... Reverse on a drop (even singlehanded). Grab lazy, blow sheet and tack, collect foot, blow halyard.
  2. I don't think a lagoon is ever going to be comparable to a gunboat. In any way. Ever.
  3. I see on the regatta website Vodafone has protested Excess? Anyone know what that's all about?
  4. Yes, but not in my boat!
  5. Yup, I flicked a short email to Richmond yc about it.
  6. Titanium finished seconds in front of me (Voom) 1:20ish is what I recall, so I think my time of 1:22 must be about right.
  7. Finish times for catabatic and gale force are not quite right. Both were a bit later than the results indicate. Yeah, Superbad sailed a great race. As did anarchy. Those boats (and 2 of 10) were a long way ahead of the rest of us.
  8. Apparently a few made it to 7 buoy with 90mins to go and never made the finish at 9 buoy. Must be gutting. Voom finished at about 1:20am? And I was knackered!
  9. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it is ok to sail in front of ships, just that the behaviour of one boat will be likely to have consequences for them, not the clubs.
  10. Actually, I'd have thought it was not smart for a cruise ship with generally a more relaxed time schedule than, say a container ship, to leave during the busiest hour of the week on the harbour Also, maybe there would be issues for a particular yacht getting in the way, but id like to see someone try and stop Wednesday evening races! Good luck with that.... That would make us the 'city of fails'

    Route 1

I don't see catabatic on the list, but believe Bruce is coming?
  12. I have a very low boom on Voom, with damn near zero visibility to leeward. It is scary on startlines, but just requires vigilance the rest of the time. Love reading your updates, so keep posting. Your sprit set up is much tidier than mine, very impressive (except the hook, unsure of that).
  13. Wind got up after you arrived at kawau! We had up to 20ish in the arvo...
  14. Did you come down from the boi? I saw you Sunday morning in Bon accord (stockyard bay?). I was on the y88, Youngblood. We motored from opua to a bit south of tuts, but had an excellent sail from there to kawau.
  15. For sure. Got that one solved though, crew is being dropped off in the morning on Saturday.
  16. Did I request company? I think that was for kawau night race return journey. Got a crew lined up for trip home from marsden thankful. Bloody long return journey by yourself on a GBE!
  17. I've entered the soloiq series, so will continue to race against the same boats. You will find I won't be the only singlehanded keelboat with more than one hull (and no keel). I think perhaps the division should just be called 'singlehanded'
  18. http://www.sailmagazine.com/diy/how-to-build-a-hard-top-dodger/
  19. I'm racing Voom up singlehanded, have to be back midday Saturday, would like company for return journey, so if anyone wants a lift home after Friday's race, PM me (Ken)
  20. This is a great race, nice length, but challenging enough. Voom will be doing the route 1. I'm scared.
