Ok Thanks. Assuming we have a tube, threaded at both inboard and outboard ends would one end be LH thread and the other RH?
-
Townson 36. Bronze studs i think. Come to think of it - the last time this was done, I paid Bill to do it (10 or 15 years ago i think) i recall a thread on lower end of the tube so I'll try and unscrew the upper stud rather than backing off what i thought was a locking nut. Of course with the stud still in the housing cannot be unscrewed.

This is the business end of a prop shaft on a Townson 36. I decided amongst all the other things to do that the cutlass bearing housing needed removal and probably resealing - mostly cos fibreglassing outside is generally frowned on in the pissing rain but also it looked dodgy. So i tried and wouldnt ya know it - the lower stud broke off . Original fitting, 48 years old finally succumbed to the ravages of time. So i have drill it out and set a new one in but before I can, have to remove the housing. I've never done that, so - does anybody have advice as to how? It seems secure -

Yup. No train = no one gets on or off! Seems like throwing baby out with bathwater though doesn't it? As someone else pointed out the train didn't go rogue - it was the train driver who shoulda been caned within an inch of his life. I'd expect we will be hearing a governmental apology to the train in years to come.

I've just binned the remnants of my old SP Inflatable and will not be going back to blow up anythings. Its the real deal for this boy from now on. Plywood dinghy, GF (with luck her indoors wont find out 😉), full cream milk. actual coffee, sugar if i feel like it, full bodied red wines, blue vein cheese, steak n kidney pies - all the good sh*t. If i were doing what u suggest BP - I'd get a catalysed contact, suitable for plastised vinyl, the same vinyl as the tubes. Do it outside & have loads of carbon activated masks at your side. In my experience catalyst is iso cynate base

So - when it seems all is lost its not, actually. Rum makes everything good

Nup. With luck I won't wake up dead

Give Nick at Adhesive Technologies a call. They do west system resins and as far as I remember pricing was better by far

crazy ivan moves are pretty hard to avoid.

anybody know why the disparity in corrected elapsed times? I assume they are similar sizes.

no argument there Sloop.

I dont have an issue with licencing if it reduces the number of dickheads out there on the water, but regrettably regimes like this dont guarantee anything. I'm about to introduce my 6y.old boy to the sea, and to be frank it scares me that incidences of dangerous behavour seem to be increasing. I've never been one to throw sh*t at other vessels or confront other boaties at anchor, when they do dumb things but with precious ' cargo' on board, i can see it happening.

Putting aside my negativity, I just realised its a Sydney to Akld race ( yes I know. DER. Its all in the leading lines!) and it occured to me how much more awesome would it be if it was a 2 legged event with boats leaving both side's at the same time (i.e doubling the tasman) 2 weeks to re-gather/repair or withdraw and off we go again). Winner to be determined on total elapsed time. My ramblings aside, the sad fact is that this sort of event probably is now (& may well have been for years) the domain of semi-pro or professional teams. Its good to see something new happening.

In which case - assuming Akarana are actually not involved - I retract.
-
Don't worry though it will come to nothing. Letting off steam is all.
-
The attitude that RAYC have demonstrated toward maintaining haul-out facilities. nothing personal.
-
Awesome event. Shithouse organisers. All boats should, as a condition of entry, have to stay in the water for 8 weeks prior to start without being hauled and /or cleaned in any fashion. Even if I could I would not enter or support the organiser by entering.

and bugger - wind on the snout.

Whats happened to Vixen?

I see skipper has decided to shoot the gap and do 'just' a RNI. Fair call. I'd be thinking hard about getting to Cook and turning around. East Coast with all the potential for floating timber seems like a scarey prospect to me.
-
You're never there until you're there, so near the end, beware... Fair winds to skipper & crew
-
Good on him (?) but why? Is it fund raising for a cause, or just because.
-
And now from the meaningless graph department. This came up on windy when i swiped or clicked or something... Anybody got a clue as to what it means?
-
Ex Veldare, Please explain that? I don't understand your point. Cheers

Agreed IT. My point was more about repeating whispers heard on grapevine. Having said that, it would be niave to think operator gets it 100% all the time (although thats not out of the question), but certainly if the facility is not up to the task they have a much more difficult situation. I think all thaf stuff about operator errors is utter bollocks anyway and has not contributed to this. RAYC are amongst the major villans here and should be taken to task for their attitude. At least, they should front up and put up the facts leading to their stance.
