  1. Just measured up my boat and this looks like it'll fit. https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1555165490 Not sure I really need one but figure it'll get more use than the kite. I don't have a prod out the front though, does that matter?

Pretty disappointing the girls didn't hold on to a podium. Metvuw forecast for next Sat (which will no doubt change) is showing Easterly 30'ish knots which would make the in port race exciting.

Turn the tide currently going over 2 knots faster, have gone from 7.5 miles behind this morning to 3.2 now, seem to be gaining all the time. Might run out of racetrack though. Will be an exciting finish!

Did you book an extra couple of hours flying KM? The inconsiderate buggers didn't come around the cape quite as quick as they'd hoped.

Akzo about 200 miles from the cape so they'll cut that out in 12hrs ish? Looks like light winds until about midday tomorrow though, be nice if they came in early evening, be cool to watch them come in around north head.
  6. This interview is quite interesting. https://www.radionz.co.nz/audio/player?audio_id=2018633375 Sounds like bases '2 & 3' weren't meant to be bases as they're wanted by/used for/by the superyachts/marine industry, and TNZ say the other bases on Winyard point are unworkable. https://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/ninetonoon/audio/2018633375/another-day-another-america-s-cup-plan Can't imagine Italy being any more organised than us though. Or maybe if you've got enough money over there you just bulldoze your way through and get what you want.
  7. There is a road on the other side of the tanks though so perhaps they'll just build the boat sheds on top of the road and access the tanks from the other side? The council has been paddling in the wrong playpool on this, and it's been found out. Its development arm, Panuku, appears to have worked closely with Emirates Team New Zealand to secure the outcome ETNZ wants. That's not its job: Panuku is supposed to secure the best outcome for the city. If this is right I mutter 'fucken Panuku' to myself. That report that came out yesterday saying NZ is the least corrupt country in t
  8. Sounds like they have a vested interest to keep the waterfront as least built up as possible but it also seems pretty logical to do so if the bases can be kept on land. TNZ's statement about their being lots of money behind the proposal seemed quite snarky. Surely they should be trying to keep the harbour from having more wharves built out further into it.
  9. Just saw that, pretty impressive beast indeed. Be interesting driving it to the sea. Where will they launch it?
  10. Bloody bugger! I assume your keel is in place and that's a 6-8 foot drop? Sounds lucky you were able to walk away from that...

That's the nice way of saying - your sail's rooted and you'll soon be shelling out for another one?

Ta, was wondering if they might interfere with a perm patch but if you're going to sew over the top I guess it ain't gonna matter. Any recommendations on who to do it? Not sure wifey's going to be too impressed if I drag her machine out of the cupboard...

hmmm, the next bill is always nearby isn't it... Not sure who made the sail, hasn't got any logo's on it and was there well before we got the boat so perhaps that's why its why it is.

    Sail Repair

Noticed some chafe/wear and tear on my main the other day, would I get away with some tape or do I need to pull it off and get someone with a sewing machine to fix properly?
  15. Ah so a bit more than KM's little two seater which makes sense. Next questions was u if you were involved in the building of MBAS Puff. The school has built two of them now yeah? Once upon a time, many years ago that was my high school, wish they were building planes when I was there, amazing opportunity to be involved with.
  16. David Witt comes across as the type of person who doesn't suffer fools very well. The guy that went over will be hoping they don't lose the leg by 5 miles...
  17. 23hp Kubota (on VP's suggestion) would be better than a 10hp Bukh no?
  18. How much is it to hire a 172 per hour KM?
  19. Wow, that's cool! I have zero need for one but now want one. where is he based?
  20. Call into the store at Kuaotunu if you're ever passing and want a value for money icecream. Their version of one scoop is far from your average one scoop (at a grand cost $2) and generally more than enough for the most people. If you're brave try the Kuaotunu Killer for $6.50. I've never tried one but I'd be 99% sure I wouldn't finish it.

Super close racing between Dongfeng and Mapfre, they had a port/starboard last night apparently. https://www.facebook.com/volvooceanrace/videos/10156319871427437/
  22. Done and dusted. Wonder what you do next when you've just knocked that sort of challenge off. Go around the wrong way? François Gabart breaks the record around the world alone! Starting Saturday, November 4 at 10:05 am from Ushant, François Gabart cut this Sunday, December 17 at 2:45 (French time) the finish line of his solo world tour, located between Cape Lizard and Ouessant. For his first attempt, the skipper of the trimaran MACIF sets a new record of the solo round the world in 42 days 16 hours 40 minutes and 35 seconds, it improves from 6 days 10 hours 23 minutes and 53 seconds the
  23. So just over 1100 miles until he's home. Should knock about a week off the previous record. Amazing.
  24. I saw this example of using prop walk to your advantage a few months back, clearly not his first time in a tight space... https://www.facebook.com/125068434229063/videos/1325531817516046/ I've only just started having to back into a no finger berth, learning to use prop walk is a very satisfying skill. (not that I've by any means mastered it like our friend in the vid above)
