  1. Agree that the public should know. Unfortunately I don't think they will because if the full story comes out it will show how much trademe cares, which is not much.
  2. Thanks for youtube vids. So, is it jason wilson or Rudolf Shack? Are they one and the same?
  3. Erice. He's the one I was thinking of.
  4. Probably him. If anyone wants the trademe names and phone numbers I have for him DM me.
  5. Good on you for posting this. More info on the "repairer" would be good. There's a guy I've been tracking on trademe who has multiple accounts and starts new ones when he gets found out as a crook. I've reported him to trademe but they don't care. His modus operandi is to buy old boats for peanuts, tizz them up a bit then sell them. They are still junk. He goes under different names including Jason and Rudolf.
  6. Good to hear that the app can take trip reports. A better solution might be to have separate and dedicated apps that do each function properly.
  7. Am I right? Are some vehicle ferries around Auckland wasting fuel digging a hole in the water by trying to exceed hull speed?
  8. I used to simply get nowcasting on VHF channel 25 I think it was for the hauraki gulf, which was great. How do you get nowcasting nowadays?
  9. Nice to see this topic activated again. I'm just hoping for advice on getting the smell out of clothes and boat sheets. Even after being through the washing machine you can still smell the diesel. Yuk.
  10. Wild guesses: Sparkman and Stephens 34. Contessa 32
  11. Won't chlorine keep it ok for quite a while?

  14. If you insist on one producing more greenhouse gases then at least get a 4-stroke, but I'd be going for electric these days.
  15. They've been good but now the rubber is old and hard. Any way to revitalise the rubber?
  16. Sea survival expert with one form of communication??? Jeez. I always carry my grab bag in the dinghy. You never know when you might need it.
  17. Panuku is a disgusting organisation hell bent on selling off public greenspace and trashing the heritage values of Auckland.
  18. Aleana. I tend to agree, having read the article now, and big thanks to LadyHawk for that - it was very moving. Short strops on tethers may have stopped being washed overboard. Spray hoods on life jackets and individual PLDs may have helped. There are also boats being built now that will float even when full of water. I was rescued from drowning as a boy. I had given up the struggle and was floating peacefully underwater watching the play of light on the surface while I enjoyed CO2 poisoning. I have rescued 2 people myself from being drowned in the surf on unpatrolled beaches. Best adv
  19. I also refuse to pay a cent to the Herald until they produce consistently good journalism. They've got a few good writers but it's mostly rubbish. Did Stuart have a sailing knife on him, and one that could be opened with one hand? Every sailor should carry one at all times from the first day they step into a dinghy as a child. It should be automatic that you have it. We should all have the small PLBs on our life jackets.
  20. There's plenty of science on shoaling effects and sea states. And no I'm not going to outline it. Start with wikipedia.
  21. Thanks chariot. The width bit I get, but how does depth affect the cradle setting. Does it mean you lower the cradle further into the water? Or lower the cradle until a certain point on the cradle arms reaches the water?
