I could probably do with another for the trip home on the sun fast if anyone was keen.

Sun fast 3600 racing has entered.
-
I'm taking the sunfast up but with the family on board. Might still pop over for a rumba at some stage tomorrow night. Hoping to do the route 66 solo though.

Wonder if he had his floorboards screwed down and if he passed the stability test.....
-
I have an old opti you can have real cheap.
-
Good to hear he is on top of it. I have sheltered in castle point a few times. Not a bad spot but it can howl through there.
-
Sadly I don't think the rest of his trip is going to be all that fun.
-
Wow gusting 71kts now. There are a few natural wind funnels down that way, castle point is one of them.
-
Its about to get a whole lot windier for him. Currently averaging 52kts and peaking 68kts at castle point. Stay safe wheels!

I reckon tomorrow afternoon south of Castle Point is going to be very windy.

Give Keith from Acrylic Creations a call. http://www.acryliccreations.co.nz/dt_gallery/boat-windows/ 098277118 He has done a couple of sets of windows for me. In fact my old boat 'Jagged Edge' features on the gallery page for boat windows. Keith owns the Alan Wright Marauder 'Manawa' and just did a circumnavigation of New Zealand. Great guy.

Maharg, yes I know what its like to be stuck in a small boat with kids in bad weather- Not much fun at all! We have energetic 3 young boys 3, 5 and 7 who get cabin fever pretty quickly and have done extended cruises on boats from 22-28ft for the last 10 years. However that storm was very well forecast from close to a week out so heading to the barrier the day before the storm was a probably not the best decision. We headed back into the marina on the night of the 31st in convoy with 4 other friends boats and had a nice dock party for new years. Then did the normal rainy day activities in Auc

Glad to hear that worked Andy. Have a safe trip back to Tauranga mate.

Ash come with us. I had a couple bail so have room now.

Generally the luff will be about the same as the halyard height from the deck. The foot should be about 1.8 times your spinnaker pole length.

Sun Fast 3600 Racings Entry is in!

David it was still really no more structure than was needed to actually complete the job, I didnt really add any more than the basic taping and fairing but used Carbon in some areas instead. And we did actually use a chainsaw too! Here is the text of the full report of the job that I did for the Marauder magazine. Shows details of the structure. The Transformation of a Marauder We brought the Cordite late 2009, she was in a pretty sorry state when we purchased her, batterys flat, interior mouldy, sails covers and squabs in tatters and just generally in an untidy, unloved cond

Yes I added a lot of carbon around the transom and rudder top gudgeon post to stiffen it all up. In reality though what's left of the transom is still a pretty big ring frame..... I was never concerned that it would be a problem. I also added carbon around the top half of the rudder as the gap between the gudgeons was a lot shorted and I didnt want it twisting.

I have spent plenty of time on both having lived on a traditional closed transom ketch for most of my youth. Yes it’s OK jumping over the side into the dinghy but man its easy just stepping off the transom! Especially with young kids and all the gear that goes with it..... And for swimming I think the open transom has really helped get my kids in the water. When I cut the back out of Cordite revolutionised the Marauder for what we needed and made the boat seem so much bigger. In fact with the duckboards and the extra cockpit room there was over 10% more usable boat. You can see it in the pict

Im with Steve, open transom is much better for gulf cruising. In fact my last boat I chainsawed the back end out of it which made it suit my needs much better.
