Fish 0
Predict Wind is show 6/7 from 111 at Hicks Bay and 7/11 from 089 at Gisbourne. Wether or not you believe that though, there have been reports from leg three of the wind observations being entirely different to what the boats were experiencing. ScottiE 174
here is the average wind from PW a moment ago. Gust look to be roughly double what these reflect.
Battgirl 23
Guarantee reported 25kts and backless waves off Poverty Bay a couple of hours ago
Clipper 343
Just sploke to Dad on Rigmarole. Were getting hammered, results were unlikey to change, forecast getting worse, in terms of direction and strength. They have suspend racing and hidden in Gissie.
ScottiE 174
hmm - still a bit tighter than PW thinks? Would have thought they'd be on genne's by now . . .
ex Elly 197
From SSANZ FB 5 hours ago: "Update on Leg 4 so far. After a postponement of nearly an hour, the RO managed to find just enough breeze to get the boats across the start line in Napier and 23 boats headed slowly across the bay. Zenith and Squealer both turned right to head back to Nelson. Wedgetail had issues before the start but managed to get things sorted on the travel lift and started nearly 2 hours behind the rest. They've caught up to the fleet now. Celadon have since withdrawn from the leg and headed to Gisborne to wait out the coming weather and maybe go fishing. Jet are on their way back to Napier with motor problems. Conditions on the east coast have worsened overnight with Provincial Cowboy reporting "Just past Poverty Bay, fairly lumpy, 2 reefs in the main and a reefed jib". The Guarantee this morning sent through an update that they are in 25 knots plus, on the nose slamming into backless waves. Sun Fast Racing also reported at 0900 that they were in big confused seas, and not that pleasant. At that time they were due east of Gisborne and 3rd on line - going really well on those unpleasant conditions!"
ex Elly 197
From Sunfast FB (Booboo) 1 hour ago: "Tough going out here but all is well on the Sun Fast. Still hard on the nose in 20-25kts with a very lumpy sea. Blink just overtook us so back to 4th on line. Only 28nm to east cape. Making good progress. Sorry for the poor quality video, was trying to drive and record at the same time."
kiwi_jon 26
Just sploke to Dad on Rigmarole. Were getting hammered, results were unlikey to change, forecast getting worse, in terms of direction and strength. They have suspend racing and hidden in Gissie. Ken, if they end up withdrawing will they just turn around and take the boat back to Waikawa?
smithy09 50
Just off Tolaga Bay. Titanium just in Front, and the Spy in front a few miles. Truxton behind now. Not Marshall weather but wind has dropped to about 15 knots and the horrendous lumpy waves have abated a bit. Hope it doesn't swing North when we round East Cape!! Been a challenging leg right from the start... Looking forward to bearing away in a few hours!
