The carefully worded press release praising each other from Burling and Dalton has been somewhat washed away by Daltons more recent public comments. Yes the Royal Yacht squadron has done a neat pivot away from  Ineos and backed Bens Athena racing as their team. Who really is interested in the cup ? The racing was not of top quality last year (the womens was of far better quality for those that got to see it) I hope the Italians get the venue they have stuck with it all along and are worthy recipients

When it comes to the kiwis winning on the sailing world stage I'm always interested but I'm wondering who Burlings replacement  will be ? Presumably they have/will resign Nathan Outteridge although with his talent and Sail GP expanding he might be headhunted.

Well with the latest protocol draft for the cup written apparently by Russell Green for the defender Team Dalton and the defending club RNZYS apparently contradicting the deed of gift , time will tell if any US based syndicates will bother coming , Coutts and Ellison will be smiling....

Well that "word" is rather a decade out of date, if you check out the actual people involved in that organisation

Indeed ;-)

It seems that Paul Lewis from the Herald is writing whatever Dalton tells him to, not really reflecting the true position of the challengers in this tightened market for sponsor dollars worldwide.

The Herald you say?

There is a reason trust in Mainstream Media is so low.

"The details are yet to be finalised but it seems, from the outside, to be a kind of sailing body corporate. Called the America’s Cup Partnership or ACP, it shares responsibility for matters like the format of the 38th Cup “and future cycles”, its timing, commercial rights, media rights and fundraising to meet the costs of the event – and to attract new teams.

It’s a huge step. It takes the Cup away from sole control by the defenders and places it in the hands of a, well, committee involving the defenders and challengers.

It’s designed to help safeguard the future of the Cup within a new structure, supported by other measures like teams spending no more than €60 million ($115m) to encourage more entries and broaden the appeal.

It’s generally accepted that it costs about $200m to design, build and race a competitive AC75 foiling monohull like those in the last two Cups (though Team NZ spent only about $120m).
