  1. While your bum and arms stay the same you get better rowyness from longer oars, a way to achieve this is outriggers outside the gunwale for the rowlocks which mean you can have longer oars with slightly bigger blades and therefore more rowyness. Having spent the last 5 years (with 3 more to come) with the Westlake Boys Rowing squad has taught me lots about rowing, almost to the point where we were considering a single skiff with the associated outriggers, sliding seat and sweeps oars as a cruising addition to the VB - or a bigger outboard for the RIB.
  2. Aren't floorboards supposed to be screwed/fastened down as part of YNZ Cat requirements?
  3. It seems the Herald is slipping in its journalistic standards - there is no mention at all in the article if anyone involved was wearing lifejackets.
  4. typically an MPS was radial head with a cross cut middle and vertical lower panels, a gennaker is tri radial.
  5. Try a hot air gun on it, that should soften the glue enough to allow you to lift a corner and pull it off.
  6. and another couldn't resist, sorry BP,
  7. What was the classic quote, something like if you can remember you probably weren't there.... We hosted about 15 or so on VB for an in-port event including our very own BP.. and yes it was a tad congested ..but we had a huge day.
  8. I hope not, Bola kind of had two goes at us - it came down one the west coast a bit then bounced up a bit and then came down the east coast. I was hiding at Bon Accord watching trees get blown out of the harbour... definitely don't want that again. Although the HUGE waves we got sailing home from Kawau were a bit of fun.

Confirmed, just spoke to one of the crew. All are safe and wet and now having medicinal rum at Gulf Harbour while another team are out recovering the boat.
  10. It looks like it os getting chopped up and taken away piece by piece

Some credible witness perhaps - Im sure more than a few boat owners would be happy of you took Happy Teeth with you to testify GF's cleanliness, but make sure it stays there!
  12. Are you on the committee ScottiE? How many do we need for separate start, preferably last so we don't have traffic on the line.
  13. SI and Entry form here.... http://pybc.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/2-handed-flyer-2018.pdf I do note however no mention of Multis in this Panmure, are we actually welcome??
  14. But wait, theres more!! We could well be adding Pulse, Mysterx and Tango to the list and perhaps a GBE or two.
  15. Put a sticker over them and ignore them, particularly if they are forward of the mainsheet attachment. If they were between the mainsheet and outhaul use a stronger sticker. You may want to clean the edges of the holes so they are a neat radius so cracks won't propagate from weak edges. Similarly the boom on VB is an old piece of mast (off the Young 12m Kiwi as it happens) and we load it up A LOT, particularly with the square top upwind in 25 knots of breeze, and it has a random collection of old tang holes and slots all over the place. It gets regular inspections and hasn't shown any signs
  16. That will be both of us at the back of the fleet then, maybe you could have a word with the handicappers. I maybe need to start thinking about making some downwind sails before then, if I do it will be a guaranteed upwind event.
  17. Ive talked about this event with a bunch of people and all report to as being a hugely fun thing to do, so I'm keen to give it try (subject to kids sports programmes etc etc). What other multis are keen to join in on this but need a bit off encouragement to join in.? If any of the smaller racers/8.5s want to give it a go but don't want to carry boom tents, cooking sh*t etc etc or even venture below their own boats to sleep the VB will have a few spare bunks. Hey, we could even offer to carry all of your food/beer/rum if you are concerned about displacement. Or maybe even try to get a few
  18. It was the busiest Ive seen Motuihie for a long time. Sadly the fizz nasties outnumbered the yachts.
  19. Its not often you get a pic of your own boat sailing. Us over xmas coming around Cape Bret after a long wet beat from Whangaruru. Thanks TC for the pic.
  20. Ive been working in this KM and nearly have it sorted - a simple plan but I think it will work. With this reversing polarity thingy we start telling the populous about the negative effects of reversing polarity and how north goes south etc etc etc. and somehow how this killed the dinosaurs, early religion and possibly threatens democracy so therefore it must be going to impinge on our lives unless we do something NOW, possibly mitigated with some kind of tax. Then, we “discover” a solution which is agreed on by 97% of the “scientists” (or people claiming to be scientists, experts or even
  21. So to borrow an idea from Al Gore we should expect to see some sort of magnet tax to be introduced to help alleviate and or fix this issue.....
  22. Something to remember please everyone. Flares are dated for YNZ purposes, dated way shorter than there effective life span, no idea why but probably the same silly sh*t that infests too much of things marine. It's probably based off stuff many many years ago when flares were weaved from grass and steam powered. But now they are made so much better and better packed they last for ages so take them with you, no one has ever complained they had too many flares when they got in trouble. But if you decide you don't want to then please don't dump them. Rescue services can use them to help at carnage
