  1. Yes there is now a dedicated signposted wharf on the pier 21 side of z pier for customs.
  2. I thought I read somewhere in the report that the stability of the boat was such that once it went past 70 degrees it wasn't coming back. I wondered the same. I guess with a square rig on the forward mast you run the risk of the square sails filling and blowing the bow down leaving you with the wind on the beam again?
  3. Makes me question the owners integrity if they're not honouring gift vouchers.
  4. I went into SC a couple of months back looking for a gas detector. Friendly young salesman had never heard of a gas detector. I ended up finding them in the store and educating him as to what they were. Burnsco had a better range, staff who were able to tell me a bit about them, and better prices.
  5. Miss scarlet at the top of the waiting list. Still a big difference between anarchy, Mr kite, blink etc and an e7.9
  6. NZ law doesn't work that way. Essentially a voucher holder is an unsecured creditor in the case of liquidation. Liquidator could be nice and honor anyway but a phonecall to SC this arvo suggests they are not.
  7. Bugger. Had $300 of their gift vouchers which they won't honour now.
  8. The list is on this page https://www.ssanz.co.nz/round-north-island-2020/ Can't see a link to get on it but a few of the ssanz committee hover here, I'm sure clipper or Jon will be able to help.
  9. Has just started it's first race. The Sardinha cup.
  10. Funny, now that you mention it I noticed the same thing happen a couple of months ago when I checked it pre a Wednesday night race. Didn't pursue trying to figure out why.

Sounds like Conrad Colman has one of these too. http://www.conradcolman.com/single-post/2019/02/21/A-new-challenge-for-a-new-year
  12. Sounds like a good way to make that new main much more expensive.
  13. Krakatoa now finished as well after a fairly punishing day of glassy conditions. Well done to the competitors and the organisers it's been a great one to watch!

    NRC on fan worm

Come to think of it, while i still see mullet or similar all the time, I haven't seen a parore in ages, and they used to be everywhere in westhaven.
  15. Most of the fleet getting pretty close to Colville now. Still very good close racing, have to admit I'm pretty addicted to the tracker every hour when it updates.

    NRC on fan worm

Romany - it's gone north. Last I heard was a week or so ago it was in Marsden cove. After stops at wieti and gulf harbour to eat some dinghies. Details in the leopard seal thread here on crew. we use a hard international antifoul, I forget the name, micron something. I've never seen fanworm on our hull, but we keep it clean for racing. But the marina itself used to be covered in fanworm on the piles and piers and now there are much fewer.

    NRC on fan worm

Interestingly with the recent departure of the leopard seal I went for my first westhaven swim in ages the other day. I believe there is considerably less fan work in the area around my berth than when I last swum around my boat in the berth (summer 17/18). Not scientific and I don't have photos for a comparison, but it was over run before and now there are only a few. Not sure if Auckland now has something worse that has overgrown the fan worm or what. Interested to see if anyone else here has noticed the same?

  19. We learned and practiced this (using jeans as a flotation device) at intermediate school as part of a waterwise program. Seemed to work ok from memory but it was over 25 years ago so my memory of it might not be 100%. The air does gradually escape so you have to keep "refilling" them, which worked in the pool but would probably be difficult if it was rough.
  20. Not an expert but wouldn't operating the winch off the batteries which sit around 12.5v require considerably more current than operating the winch at 14.4v with the engine running? Worse if the voltage drops as you run the winch. I don't know what voltage the current ratings discussed above are at but would think if you're rated for an 80amp breaker at 14.4v you run the risk of continually popping the breaker if you run it at 12v.
  21. Unlikely. They were in the marina in Napier.
  22. I believe it was the large square top main. Damaged somewhere down the west coast. Leg 3 successfully completed by clipper using his cruising main. I'm at a bit of a loss with what to do at work today without refreshing the tracker all the time...
  23. It's not just a link to Facebook, the ssanz page shows the updates so that those who don't do Facebook can follow them.
  24. We'll be there. Forecast looks a bit painful though.
  25. Titanium have finished now. well done them!
