  1. Beneath the Reflections, fiordland users guide
  2. Marlborough sounds are the only place a friend of mine ever had his mast smack the water and that was when he was anchored. Can get some massive blasts of wind in there.
  3. Couldn't even sell mine just swapped it for a 4wd,hopefully that's easier to sell.Shes a rich man's game owning a yacht now. Unfortunately I think the golden years of cruising are gone in NZ to many rules and regulations.Am selling everything and moving down west coast.
  4. Marlborough sounds are horrible all pine trees and slips,Abel Tasman is nice but overcrowded with kayaks and fizzys.Stewart Islannd and Fiordland are the best cruising spots in New Zealand by far.
  5. If your not clearing into a country why bother we go sailing to get away from bloody rules.only things I would think are necessary would be life raft and epirb on board.
  6. If you decide to remove furler mark your turnbuckle with a felt pen makes it easy to get back to where it was
  7. I've found with my full keel boat with massive prop walk,I can reverse if I do it with bursts of power, small burst get moving put out of gear straighten her up repeat.Practice it's worth it.
  8. Plonk some carpet on your deck loosen your chain and swing the anchor up onto the deck, fast and simple.Or just tie your anchor up onto your pulpit.
  9. Cheers km down here the council owns the travel lift and it costs a bloody fortune,I now use the motueka slipway about a third of the price and they leave you alone to get on with it.
  10. In Nelson some of us head over to the Abel Tasman to dive and clean our boats. The council here owns the travel lift,if common sense was involved they would give all of us the berth holders 2 free lift and water blasts per year. Thus keeping the AT park clean.Cost them sfa.
  11. Ha ha yep wonder where they found all those fiberglass logs to build her from
  12. Would love to know when the cruise ships are checked most of them come straight from Auckland circle the sounds then head straight back. The divers would have to swim at 20 knots.Sure they sign a declaration.Cruising boats are no threat as you say you would be mad to head down there with a dirty hull.
  13. I sailed down there 2 years ago it's well worth the effort,I read somewhere you now need some sort of certificate to say your antifouling is up to date or something now cant remember where I saw it.Bollocks really when you see how many cruise ships pass through.Put the trip on your bucket list though only saw 2 other yachts while we were down there.
  14. Onboard I have a sig an old school dickenson type it works well and uses no power,at home I have a Chinese copy blower type it works very well but fan noise is an issue.
  15. That is a very good point km massive shock load if flung overboard.mine are attached to a steel bollard foward and steel ring aft, have seen them attached to stanchions dodgy.
  16. I have a Manson supreme as a back up bought it to replace Bruce, but have had such a good run with Bruce cant bring myself to change it.
  17. I've got a 31 foot bulletproof yacht with a lot of cruising gear for sale she is steel have cruised the south island Stewart island and the Chatham on her in the last two years comfortably and with no issues.did the Chathams solo got so bored sailing alone I'm moving on let me know if your interested.very easy boat too sail
  18. Bugger missed you then,How did you find the Abel Tasman at xmas,I wait till later as its usually a madhouse.
  19. Wondered why I haven't seen a black schooner in Nelson yet,you took the long way.
  20. Bang on KM west coast is much more user friendly.East coast is a bloody nightmare, took me a month to deliver a yacht from Auckland to Nelson.Got pinned in Napier for 10 days southerly wouldn't stop. Finally got away then got hammered around Cape Palliser.
  21. I prefer the west coast done it 7 times and east coast twice, lots of southerlys on east coast, especially from Napier down.West coast is only 2 days to New Plymouth if you need to call in or 3 days to Wellington.
  22. Im a builder on most jobsites most battery gear is either makita or millwilkie, nuthing else lasts.
  23. Mate of mine registered his boat in Amsterdam, eliminated all cat 1 requirements,Sailed safely to the islands and back with no fuss, cant see why you would do it any other way.He is a very good sailor though and his boat is very well set up.
  24. Yep nothing is more reliable than a trim tab on a stern hung rudder, would have done it to my boat if i could have.
