    American Magic

Expect big changes for American Magic’s second boat they hope will win back the America’s Cup for the New York Yacht Club. The syndicate are fully operational in Auckland now and expected to ramp up testing and training on their original AC75 Defiant over the coming week. Their second boat will be air-freighted to New Zealand and they hope to have it in the water by October. https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/americas-cup/122236132/americas-cup-dean-barker-signals-big-changes-for-american-magics-new-boat

  6. are we talking the water pipe from the waikato here or the power-lines from the south island?
  7. the predict wind tracker in 'map' mode seems to out by about 200mt north to watch the horror, switch it to 'satellite', move the time slider at the bottom so the timer at the top say 18.36, zoom in to NW tip of waiheke, then press play https://forecast.predictwind.com/tracking/race/ssanz and waka were cutting it fine at 8pm
  8. it does appear that part of the deal to get more waikato water for drinking, is that auckland start recycling some of its wastewater for drinking but some "customary"? issues will have to be worked through first https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12345648
  9. apparently working on the stormwater outfall, the pumping station also under construction at pt.erin video https://youtu.be/WqTU4vKFPqQ?t=67 a problem many years old and taking many years to rectify with the central interceptor https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11784545
  10. all ok on the 1 tack could do most of the coastal seriously though good to see her not a tangled mess of spars and kindling getting the sails down, with the luxury of time, seems excellent advice for any sinking/capsizing

"Then once when I was informed effectively out of Europe, the game was up at that stage." Dalton would not divulge exactly who those alleged spies were and said they were not 100 per cent sure about what information those involved got. "But what I do know is that I think the game was up quicker than they expected simply because information that I knew could only come from one source was fed back to

  15. surely the point of a floating; desalination plant, hospital, helipad is for when helicopter dropping $5 notes is pointless because there's nothing to spend them on https://duckduckgo.com/?q=cyclone+damage+pacific&atb=v177-1&iax=images&ia=images
  16. All going to plan American Magic hope to be sailing by the third week in July, and that will be the first time New Zealand fans see two AC75's on the same stretch of water. The other two Challengers, INEOS Team UK and Luna Rossa are expected to be sailing in Auckland in early September and the third week in October respectively. Rumours persist that America's Cup regatta dates and race schedule will be compressed and/or the entire program shifted into late January, February and further into March or beyond. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/premium/news/article.cfm?c_id=1504669&obj

  20. it appears to have been built with an eye to fitting a couple of small-caliber, remote, 'close-in defence' weapons systems to keep the sailors as safe as possible from small localised threats 1 - a small high-mounted, lead chucking cannon, that could hopefully put up a wall of lead that would detonate a sea-skimming missile 2 - a low-mounted somewhat similar weapons platform for putting holes in something like a small speedboat packed with mining explosives nothing that could 'shell' anything ie no 'gun-boat diplomacy' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunboat_dip
  21. As part of the inquiry, the federal police raided properties linked to Moselmane on Friday morning, searching for evidence to support allegations of a Chinese government plot unfolding on Australian soil. The sources said if sufficient evidence was found, the inquiry could ultimately result in an Australian and world first: a prosecution for foreign interference offences arising from an alleged covert Chinese Communist Party plot to influence a serving politician. https://www.stuff.co.nz/world/australia/300043221/australian-mps-home-raided-as-intelligence-agency-probes-china-links
  22. the current talk seems to be that a trans-tasman bubble may have to be delayed until the end of the year and only 'safe' countries' after that Let's not forget Jacinda Ardern has also alluded to a potential travel bubble with Singapore. You can see a distinct possibility that places like Australia, Taiwan, Singapore and New Zealand could have an active travel bubble next year. This would operate on the understanding that Covid-19 is controlled in each country, and if a case was imported, it could be quickly stamped out. hard to see european and yank spectators arriving in time f

  24. presumably from the log/diary found with his body very sad back to worsley + shackleton Worsley ran a relatively relaxed ship with little discipline or control of alcohol consumption. Four crew members got into a barroom brawl at a stopover in Madeira, a neutral port.[18] While anchored in the harbour, a neighbouring German ship swung into the Endurance, damaging it. Worsley, enraged, boarded the German ship with some other members of the expedition and forced the crew to repair the damage caused.[20]Shackleton, briefed on Worsley's handling of the voyage to date once he had ca
