  1. They had a narrow field of vision by the time they looked up so I reckon they couldn’t see the mast head lights because of the Bimini/canvas canopy that went almost to the windscreen
  2. I’ve lost a bit of faith in masthead tri colour after a very far ken close call with two old gents at 5.00 in the morning coming into Whangarei harbour masthead A sail up . They were in a rayglass with Bimini top on coming at us about 10 knots from port 90 degrees no nav lights and both of them glued to the fish finder . We heard them before we saw them and started yelling when we saw them about 30 metres out . They didn’t see us until last 10 metres and came within 5 metres of T boning , if we had deck level navs I reckon they would’ve seen us earlier .
  3. What’s the turbo charge brief ? Can’t read it !
  4. Cat amongst the pigeons
  5. The dehler 30 Od Just hit the water and interesting to note that fareast has two 37s close to launch too The dehler 30 Od is a judel vroljik and the fareast37 is a Simonis voogd 99k euros without sails
  6. The Fibreglass shop stocks several different brands at varying prices . If you do an NZ specific search online for “liquid silicone “ there are quite a few suppliers
  7. Yep mold making stuff , it’s a bit easier to get the level correct with the drain hole
  8. Another take on the above is liquid silicone poured on top of the balloon
  9. Hey Dr do you know the story of the boat ? I’ve seen pics of it off Mt maunganui and it’s got NZ on the transom but it’s now owned by JPK
  10. Beautifully welded up frank but I agree with IT . Your original elbow had the water injection cooling the first bend before entering the exhaust . You could slice in half a slightly larger diameter of pipe than that injection pipe and weld it on at the first bend to roughly copy the wee jacket on your old elbow
  11. Nice Scottish Jandals mate !
  12. Yeah correct I have no affiliation with encore just giving a comparison to barepole heel in a 50 Knot squall against what happened to encore .
  13. Na no idea but it was more for upwind work than righting moment think it increased the draft to 7m
  14. Yeah had a through the bulb dagger board drew about 4 metres board up and 20 something ton bulb
  15. I’ve been up a mast on a 120ft boat on bombie watch in the tuamotus’s , Barepoles and got hit by a squall was 5 knots before the squall and maybe 45-50 during the squall which lasted about 2 mins . Both my hearing aids got blown out of my ears , boat heeled about 30 degrees and that was a big rig approx 160ft . The boat in the vid looks like the spreaders pretty much hit the water and it broke the dock lines by the sounds so must of been next level in terms of wind speed to do that
  16. Nothing you would normally do would’ve stopped that cat leaving the water
  17. Kinell ! Makes mullet boats look tame , love the bamboo spars and hiking sticks
  18. Yep things are moving on up north . remember when the caravans first started getting plumb bows ? Now every bugger has one , fat bums on caravans are getting common too you can even get hybrid caravans capable of speeds in high teens-low 20s like Dr Watson’s . High speed caravans are a great idea I reckon , family friendly and fanging friendly .
  19. Mine is just plan old sheathed dyneema off the roll as per cat3 specs. lashed on at the ends with 2mm dyneema . Knot me would throw a tanty about the bowlines at the pulpit/push pit for attaching but it’s held my 100kg crew onboard a couple of times. I don’t have any sign of chafe at staunchions yet after almost a year , holes are well radiused which helps
  20. Same as clipper and the bonus with dyneema is its easy to take it off to replace/fit foam tube to top life line
  21. Seeing as it’s the opti worlds this kids expected pathway is probably the olympics and beyond . No doubt he’s had countless hours of coaching , many 1000s of Ks travelling to regattas a crap ton of $$$ to get to the Caribbean plus the support and expectation of his local club . I don’t know his folks but I’m sure they’ve given him a lecture on chucking away a race after all the blood , sweat and tears to get there . I’m not shocked by the language but 12 year olds sporting arena isn’t the place for it so good call by the judges .
  22. This is on the front page of sailing anarchy . Mixed feelings on this one colourful language for an opti sailor and no doubt a lesson learned .
