  1. http://www.propellers.co.nz/yamaha-propellers/ Google Solas Propelors. Nz made. The rubber clutch inside thier props are harder rubber and wont slip like the Yamaha ones do. And is cheaper. The genuine Yamaha prop keeps slipping when the prop comes out of the water going through waves. We nearly ended up on the break water in Okahu Bay trying to motor back in westerley front when the Yamaha prop was slipping. Looks like they are making a high thrust, four bladed, low pitch prop soon. Try one of those.
  2. I am with KM on this one after a bit of thought. I have seen a boat pulled apart at Nortcote Point boat ramp. It isnt all that good for the environment. Bits break of and float away. Most dumps have leachate pumps discharging to our wastewater sewers. Disolved copper cant be treated in treatment plants, it only gets diluted to acceptable levels and discharged into the sea. More fuel is used to scrap a boat and take it to a proper land fill. Shitters are already covered in seaweed holding them together and full of marine life. The antifoul has long worn of. There is a disused explos
  3. My son just txt "Waves held all week". He is patroling at a surf club at Ocean Beach, Whangarei Heads.
  4. The family that bought her are very lucky.
  5. Not the first car that went into the drink at this spot. Busy place, lots of hot boxing and other lewd activity goes on all the time. A barier will be good.
  6. This map looks like the tracker information which is sent via a mobile phone. this is also mandatory requirement but not realy a safety requirement. It updates the map sporadicly especially in areas where mobile phone coverage is weak or sat phone is being used for emails etc. Its mainly used for general information to land users, not a safety device. AIS is only through VHF and only visible to nearby yachts that have AIS system on board. It is the holy grail of new safety equipment. Nearby boats can see your every move on a small screen in the cockpit and you can see all the boats nearby
  7. Just move the boat to the east coast on a westerly. Great place
  8. Res ipsa loquitur AIS goes out, which the other three boats would witnes. Wild oats gets a wind shift and sneaks ahead of the other, AIS miraculaously comes back on, Dont need to prove that someone turned of AIS. "The facts will speak for themselves"'.
  9. Doesnt look like there is any load, just a plank that sits over the top, probably hiding the cracks. Did someone sail this boat all the way from Sweden?
  10. Our main beam is 160 by 115, same as the mast.
  11. Buy a ring, a few nuts and bolts, do it yourself.
  12. Core builders in Warkworth apparently use a mix of glues for the Americas cup boats, without issues.
  13. Looks like Galeforce tracker has stopped. Have they finished?
  14. Second that Paul. Your raft has seen a lot of ofshore miles, the Dynema side stays tested under a lot of load (no running back stay). If it doesnt fail on a large cat, it is not going to fail on a leaner.
  15. Crew ok, been told salvage crew have been called to retrieve Tigre. Easy to spot, hulls are high out of the water.
  16. The guy that sailed accross to Oz on 20 foot Wharam with is 7 year old daughter seems to easily get away with it.
  17. I used to crew on Young 88s. The nationals has this requirement. It was a quite a big sour hurdle as ayoung boy.
  18. The different stats between foreign boats getting rescued and NZ ones, could be that many of the foreign boats perrished because they had no comunication. We will never know, but paints a grim statistic if this is the case. Many foreign boats have no comunication and limp into ports. Most NZ boats getting rescued could have easily limped in. NZ has a culture of racing even if we are cruising, race is on, we don't limp around. I see many foreign boats and say to myself that must be so slow and painful.
  19. Agree KM Would I go on Frank, the 20m Orma with the current skipper, without a CAT 1 and race to Fiji. Hell yes. The risk is worth the reward.
  20. I personaly wouldnt jump on a boat, off shore without CAT 1. If an adult wants to go of on his own without all the safety gear, is willing to pay for a rescue or doesnt want to be found if he gets in trouble. Let them go, good luck. No diiferent than base jumping or other extreme sports which I like watching.
  21. Legend. Love to listen to his stories,
