  1. How about to forgot to tell wife we aren’t on mains water any more and using 150l of water in 48 hours! Don’t ask me how, I’m still looking for the leak in the tank as I sit in woody bay! Luckily there are some helpful crew.ogers who helped me top up this morning!
  2. Thanks guys filled up at Orapiu, was a bit of fun getting along side but not to bad, then headed for the fresh Rose’ a couple bays down!
  3. Is there any where around Waiheke, particularly the bottom end you can fill up with water?
  4. Didn't realise so much got washed away!
  5. Mooring FH147 for Rent Rated for up to 10m vessel. 1000kg Mooring weight of 4x RRW Prime location straight out from Hobsonville boat ramp in very sheltered part of the harbour! Asking $30.00 per week short term
  6. Hi Island Time, do you have any B&G/Simrad Wind Gear by any chance?
  7. Don’t disagree with what you are saying, however the world has changed. Some of the changes are due to how the world operates these days. Duty of care by clubs mean that the volunteers need to be offered shade/sun protection, more safety boats are required to ensure you can say you have complied with your DoC to run a ‘safe event’. Parents are now to busy to run learn to sail courses at a a lot of clubs, so there is paid instructors and some clubs, these need to be trained etc, which is offered by YNZ etc etc. Yes high performance may have changed things but it’s not the only reason f
  8. Would anyone have a berth at Westhaven free on the 27-28th November by any chance? For a Y88.
  9. Having a bit of knowledge of Australian Sailing, it is probably heading down the NZ path to be honest however due to larger numbers and the spread of participants (Remember in Australia a people will do a 5 hour drive each way for a days sailing) that the classes like the Flying Ant etc are still around. Will they be around in 5 years time? I would like to think so but I think that there will be 1/2 the number of these classes still around. The regional clubs will still have them around but there won't be any great number sailing regularly at clubs. Even the Cherub is starting to disappear. Th
  10. To be fair the wording is set by World Sailing not YNZ
  11. So being a member of a yacht club makes you and elite sailor? If a crew member won’t pay $65 a year for a club membership find another sport! Not a big expense in the grand scheme of thing. I don’t see why people find it such a issue
  12. Exactly, and as a boat owner, if your crew won't pay $65 to join a club considering the expense gone into getting a boat ready etc doesn't seem fair!
  13. Quick search, quite a few clubs already running cruising/destination events including: MYCNZ, RNZYS, RYC, HYC, CCYC, BBYC just as a quick search
  14. I guess sailing clubs don’t have costs to run racing either, start boats, buoys, flags, insurance for volunteers, training of volunteers, admin of entries etc At least hockey fields are council owned shared assets
  15. Boat owner as of this year yes, until now always been a crew on other boats. I tried hockey for a few weeks, wasn’t allowed to play without paying a fee! And all crew on my boat for races more than a Wednesday night/rum race are members of a club! By that stage chances are they have spent more on wet weather gear than what a membership would cost! I don’t have a issue with all sailors in the coastal classic being a member of a club if that’s what the race committee requests. How is the sport going to progress if only the owners are members of a club? A lot of time and resource goes into or
  16. I have been a member of at least one yacht club since I was 8, and don’t see why I wouldn’t want to be a member of a club to do a sport I’m participating in. Agree Wednesday night/ beer can races invite guests along, any other racing all crew should be members. I’m sure you don’t stick to the clubs rules by signing all your non-member crew in before they go to the bar? Potentially breaching their liquor licence etc. Join a club, it’s not hard and hardly expensive. Probably costs more for a tank of fuel to drive to sailing these days
  17. InAustralia all members of affiliated clubs of Australian Sailing are covered by a National Personal Accident Insurance policy. Clubs are charged a set fee per year (differs club to club) not a per member fee to cover this
  18. You can go sailing for free as well, cruise the gulf to your hearts content. But join in an organised event, and then you should be a member of a club/pay a fee. Go skiing- pay for lift passes etc Go Kiteboard racing - Join the association/Pay a entry fee Join in a ocean swim event- Join the association/ pay swim fee One they are trailing over in Australia is a ‘Sail pass’ for non members up to 8 times sailing per year @ $10 a time, after that join a club and get the $80 as a credit!
  19. Putting barriers in front of people by requesting that they pay a fair fee for the resources and facilities they off? To me I see that as a fair barrier, most clubs offer reduced crew/new member discounts and you can pay it off over time. Personally don’t see what the issue is. If someone is going to commit to your boat as crew then should join a club
  20. Not trying to side with Yachting NZ, however this NOR is issued by a yacht club (RAYC in this case) They are the club enforcing it not YNZ.
  21. Try go do any other sport without paying a fee/membership. Play golf without paying green fees? Play in a hockey team without joining a club? Why is sailing any different? Use the facilities and resources but don't want to become a member? Not fair on those members who do pay fees, this is why memberships etc keep going up, as we are expecting more but less people becoming actual members but happy to drink in the bar etc. There are plenty of options to become a member with payment options etc. Why is sailing any different to other sports?
  22. Foiling 50’s (Larry and Russels new series)

  25. Thanks for the offer raz88, I have a couple older ones already which Id suggest are good for delivery/cruising only!
