  4. slightly different to battery being freighted, but what do you think of a courier company who picked up a rifle with bolt,no ammo, delivered to home with must sign, left at back door and driver signed it?? When tackled the courier company the excuse was there was a car in drive so thought must home!!
  5. made one using galvanized water pipe, put a nipple in on angle, about 150mm down from bend, never had a water back flow problem,4yrs on still there. previous elbow was steel as well lasted 15yrs.
  6. How many commercial yards or private club yards allow dry sanding antifoul without building a tent and using a vacuum sander?? Our club allows wet sanding but must be hauled in to right area for catchment purposes, cannot even spray without a tent, A few of us had thought about reseeding local reef with mussels from boats hauled out and no must be dumped, viewed from the point it will in time help clean the river as a mussel filters 300lts a day
  7. Oh hell a lion roared at the zoo, quick put it down!

  10. Saw this on Trademe and according to Q & A no special ticket to operate as it is a private vessel??surely that cannot be right? www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/motorboats/auction-1580309906.htm?rsqid=44e13cfe142d4d37bd80bfd0b6ebf2eb
  11. Never had an electrolysis problem with kiwi prop, zinc on shaft, ali hub properly etched primed with ali antifoul, had to do 3 times in 12 months but no sign of corrosion, never bothered antifouling blades as found anti foul never really stuck, coated 3 times year in lonlolin and prop speed not a fan as to many factors enter the equation as applicator stated not a guarantee it will depending on who has what moored near you.
  12. I believe kiwi props are now saying not to use on less than 30hp because of the reverse issue, can stall small motors,16hp yanmar when going in to reverse had to put in reverse then give power quickly otherwise it stalled, but once in reverse could idle backwards.

They attached the mooring chain directly to the boat (which was too heavy for the boat) and resulted in damage. See photo. The answer is here ,remember reading about it
  14. We used that rolled carpet type stuff from burnsco,,easy to cut/fit lift out to dry, does not rot, Tended to leave lifted when not onboard as can/does feel damp when boat locked for a week.
  15. Was not watching at the gas station, went to pay for diesel, 150lts bit of a surprise when the girl said $380,yep had to call Mr Sucky out,now truck stops only. Worst part is the next driver did exactly the same thing.

    Stuffing box

I would say YES,shouldnt be tight until end nut squashes in to place, should still be able to turn shaft by hand with resistance,

    Stuffing box

Hmm if the previous owner had 6mm packing onboard then I would think it is the correct size, why would you carry the wrong size??Is there anyone nearby who could have a look or advise?? Side track here but why would a japanese car have 10mm nuts and then put a 3/8th on number 7? without trying to be silly here but have you looked at replacing with a dripless gland? If you intend on keeping/cruising for a number of years, There is serious on tv (sky)about various canals around Europe, looks like could be a bit of me in retirement yrs

    Stuffing box

remove old packing with a hook, can be done in the water, looks a lot of water but its not,3 x packing is preferred and joins 90 degrees to each other, nip up till stops dripping when stationary, should drip when under way 1 of 2 drips per minute and should not be hot to touch.
  20. incorrect as far travel in channels, from my observation when they are heading out, tend to round north head and head straight to A bout, never following the channel , Why would they waste fuel?. Very unfortunate case .

    Mangroves

Yes there is a species of mangrove exclusive to NZ,mangroves grow north of Tauranga from memory. They provide a habitat for fish to hide, unlike the tropics etc where fish actually come in to the shallows to breed,They do not do this in NZ. The thought was fresh water killed them when cut and rots the roots but how do explain the ones growing by the old Kopu bridge in Thames in a paddock??they have clear most from Pahurehure lagoon but some greenie claims to of found a foot print in the mud from an endangered bird, Most of the mangroves have gone and the silicone sand beach is returning. But
