same, meter on dash shows charging at 14.5 just put meter on battery showing 12.5 had 31/2 yrs no issue no change to any wiring. Crank battery always show 13.5v previous owner fitted amp meter to show battery drain. nothing fancy here. All I need is house battery to power lights/waeco fridge,dvd/tv not necessary keeps no2 amused at night.

battery after 24 hr charge shows 13.5v so will see what it reads tonight.this system has been in the yacht for 40yrs,so I presume previous owners just changed out batteries after 4 or so years? Do have a spare alternator onboard which is 80 amp?so could original alt not actually be working at spec?

Battery computer??40 yr old yanmar,no fancy wiring, have battery at home on charge. I presume alternator goes straight to battery, using isolators the old key type.

Try bleeding it again, I tightened mine down with a spanner and no issue,

Deep cycle, sitting for a week metre onboard shows 20%,run for an hour and shows 100%,but drops quickly to 50% when I plug fridge in +3 waeco, slow crank if lucky, start battery is fine. start on crank and run 30 minutes then turn off and put deep cycle on for 1hr. deep cycle when new ran fridge easy for 10hrs,dvd through converter and 12v tv + lights,2 hrs of movies a night, and if I forgot to swap to crank in morning would fire up motor .Now Haha. might just bite the bullet and replace.

Is it worth to the VHF radio have DSC function. Anyone use it?
harrytom replied to nagy592's topic in MarineTalk
Have a vhf purely for weather report, cannot be bothered listening to B/S but must admit when I have the boy onboard do tend to lodge a t/r with c/g for the just in case, but if another vessel in close proximity is trouble they better let a flare off if they want my attention. About 2 /3 months ago a mayday call was heard and I pity the poor bugger trying to find them, the caller had no idea where they were, had to describe various landmarks, about 20 minutes later figured they were out the back of the noisies,so in that case a flare would of been more use.- 67 replies

common sight on river now days.

The 5 knot rules are simple,5 knots when within 200m of the shore or swimmers and 5knots when within 50m of another vessel, seems to me that the council installing these ski lanes etc are breaking there own rules,as for the 50m mark pass another vessel is bloody joke when one looks at the wake that some vessels leave.

We have a simular problem up Tamaki river with the dry stack,5knt zone whats that?? Capt Imadick just puts hammerdown and rolls all the moored vessels, its only time before one of the rowing club skiffs get tipped out.

Would I be concerned having the tank under floor on top of motor?YES from me simply the tank will leak fumes out the breather screw and where would the vapor disperse too? In the event of hose coupling disconnect itself from tank where would fuel drain too .

The only useful thing I can see with a anchor watch system is if your in a bay by your self, say hooks bay(waiheke) drag and your on your way t??colville/firth but anchor in a popular surrounded by others they will soon let you know youve dragged etc bay on your own would probably set for 100m

the mast has gone, just been to vic park for the noodle fest, stroll around the viaduct, where the virtual video shows would a good idea, currently a few fishing boats there.
