  1. I only read Crew on my phone and it shows fora in date order so Small talk dominates the list, being the most active area. I’m happier not seeing it as it has tidied the lists up and I have already saved several microseconds not having to read the headings. “I can resist everything but temptation”
  2. It’s wise to never admit to being a cyclist. They seem to be the least popular of life forms. Healthy specimens though.
  3. In Tauranga the sports boats have been sailing amongst the A division fleet.

    SailGP

Did anyone see the New York edition of SailGP? I’m not sure it is very compelling for us Kiwi’s to watch two Australians race each other. And Phil Robertson (kiwi skippering for China ) seems to always pick the wrong side of the course and turn a solid 2nd it third into last. New York is a horrible place to hold a boat race with heaps of current and gusty conditions -turns most races into a lottery by which I mean it is a lottery as to which Aussie will win.
  5. That’s brilliant thanks LH. I’ll come over with a beer some time.
  6. Fantastic. I’ve hated the hunting at anchor for decades now. My Challenge 29 was truly awful in this regard. Best I’ve managed is when the rode is deployed from the prod of our Elliot 10.5. I’ve tried making little sails to deploy from the topping off the back of the boom but it’s never really worked because it’s impossible to control the ‘luff’. Is there any detail on how to design one of these?
  7. Legends was conceived for boats to participate as much as compete. We’ve tried to blend cruising and racing. That’s what makes it so compelling. We get lots of boats that won’t race normally but the regatta is at the right time to get boats that have Been in the marina for the winter to get out and up the coast. Auckland boats have always been invited and there has always been an Auckland start line. Has been a Whangarei one too. Initially it was a joint event with Whangārei/mercury bay and Mount Maunganui clubs. We want to see as many non racers as racers. The rules are drawn up to moti

    Non Skid deck

Thanks Raz. I know a main will be more. Much more. Way much more. I’ll look up the stuff you mention. This stuff is $130 per 2.4m sheet. So I’ll go and have a look. https://www.nzrubberandfoam.co.nz/shop/marine-products/marine-deck-matting-diamond-beige/

Yes. But a nice carbon main would be better.

Just got a price guide for the Ultralon foam and it is not cheap. I was told to allow 5k for the cockpit.

Cheers KA. I’m not sure from your post if you’re saying you do the can get a quote or if I go to the supplier. I’ve sent a request off and will post the outcome when more info to hand.

    Non Skid deck

I went and took some photos: These from Ran Tan 2: I really like the embossed name and the numbering on the traveller. This from a big cruiser nearby: This is the sloping foredeck on Pork Chop. It's hazardous enough in the marina without adding chop and the big kite:

    Non Skid deck

I know that this topic has been done, done again and then done over, but I can't find anything on this particular point: Pork Chop has a precariously sloping foredeck (Elliot 10.5) and I find Kiwigrip too slippery. We've experimented with sandy type paints, but they wear fairly quickly. I'm about to look at TredGrip but I saw RanTan in Tauranga this morning and see that her cockpit has a cool bespoke matting of some sort (sorry, no photo, but it is really cool). It got me wondering whether we should put some non slip type matting on the foredeck and perhaps in our cockpit too. Do
  14. On the negative side it is a Pity a lot of boats committed to the Ssanz events and RNi in particular may miss out. On the positive this is one of the few races which has caught the imagine of a lot of people.
  15. Definitely integrated Definitely with crotch strap Definitely get one that you can service yourself Definitely have spare canisters on board.
  16. By the same token, what to do with the 1/2 dozen or so 12 metre or AC class hulls sitting at Hobsonville point?
  17. Now that’s great coverage. An invitation to some west coasters to join for the RNI next time?
  18. Does anyone know if this has died? There is nothing on the website about 2019. Do I assume the new SailGP has taken over that space?
  19. We bought one of the dual thrust props for our yammy 8. It was marvelous. Did the job in reverse, which is what we wanted. Lost a bit of top end and economy on go forward but we really wanted some stopping power for docking. Mission accomplished.

    Diesel filtration etc

I took it to the Oil recycler (Waste Mangement in Tauranga) and they reluctantly took it for me. I’m not sure if they would have if it was a smaller amount. Mine was 22 liters mostly diesel (I.e. not too much water).

    Diesel filtration etc

I think that that’s a no-no. There is a big sign beside the drum making it quite clear. I recall the recycler saying the biggest risk to them is the amount of petrol/diesel/thinners and other volatile fluids that get put in their drums. Apparently they heat the oil to distill the water out before the next stages of recycling (whatever that is). But thinking about that I might call them to see if they want it.
