  1. HT - try this list https://www.mbie.govt.nz/business-and-employment/business/trade-and-tariffs/tariffs-in-new-zealand/
  2. https://waitematawoodys.com/2019/12/22/astrolabe-a-peek-down-below/ a true kauri log!
  3. I remember sailing on a Cole 40(aluminium) out of SoPYC, even with the same system dropping her mast was interesting. I heard Tasker's Siska IV, the 70 something footer that won the Parmelia race also had a drop mast, lowering that would have been an event!
  4. From that era most likely polyester. Why not call the builder for more info https://www.barnettoffshore.co.nz/
  5. I know there is the separate discussion about Winddan. It was fantastic. Did anyone find out if Coastguard shut him down or did Dan simply move onto other ventures? Coastguard should be inviting Dan in as a consultant to the focus group.
  6. trademe answers some of your questions https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/yachts/keeler/auction-2451300823.htm?rsqid=e90a8b5a4fc641a3abf5059de583223d-003
  7. Fridge or Freezer or both? What volumes?
  8. I have heard Jake has moved on to the big jumble sale in the sky. If this is correct is the business still operating? Always an interesting place to visit.
  9. Interesting that the 21 month provision is still available. I see the "small ships" included in the household effects are light trailable type boats and in the case of yachts cannot be powered. Also noted the exemption for importation of "ships" is only for first time arrivals. I know someone who is currently taking advantage of this exemption
  10. thanks for comments CD. I have noted that IRD only requires businesses with a turnover of goods going to NZ exceeding $60k pa to be registered and collect GST. There are alot of specialist suppliers who would not reach this threshold, or not be interested in registering. So per your last paragraph it is not clear how goods of a value of less than $1000 that have not had GST charged and are sent directly to NZ ie not via Youshop, will be handled. It appears reading between the lines these may not be charged GST as none of the IRD and Customs notices specifically address this. What is clear
  11. Has anyone a clear understanding of how these new rules work? Plenty of results on a search eg https://www.westpac.co.nz/rednews/business/how-new-gst-rules-could-affect-your-online-shopping-bill/ but still not crystal clear. My impression for items up to $1000 1. The big guys eg Amazon, Alibaba, Ebay etc will be GST registered and charge GST at source so nothing else to pay? 2. If the seller is not GST registered and the goods attract less than $60 gst & duty, then there is still no charge. Over this and the old rules apply and you will pay gst, maybe duty and the associated clearance
  12. I understand there is no duty payable for a product manufactured in a free trade agreement country (that's why so many cars/utes sold in NZ are built in Thailand) https://www.customs.govt.nz/business/tariffs/free-trade-agreements/ I don't believe the 21 mths rule exists anymore, the personal effects rule only applies to first time immigrants
  13. If the boat was originally sold in NZ, ie not exported when built, then there is no way of subsequently claiming the GST back if sold overseas.
  14. I do not think weight is a big deal in this power range, a the Suzuki DF2.5 is 12.5kgs, a Yamaha 2hp 2 stroke is 9.8 kg. Much bigger difference once you get up to the 9.9hp models. The main things I like about the 4 stroke is not having to mess around with pre-mix and not leaving an oily trail. That being said if I want to go fast/some distance I will swap over to the old 2 stroke oil injected 9.9 Suzuki The down side of the single cylinder 4 strokes is they need a bit of grunt to start, to overcome the compression. My wife cannot start the 2.5 Suzuki because of this.
  15. I have had a very good run with a Suzuki DF2.5 4 stroke, not much more new than the Chinese Yamaha rip off https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/parts-accessories/outboards/listing-2407454148.htm?rsqid=b6be4af0e46e4bbbb9e5ae8a0ee75b49-003 the only thing to watch on all of these little motors where water cooled, irrespective of brand, is that the cooling passages are very small and are easily blocked if not flushed regularly
  16. what has been found to be the best sealant in diesel applications that is available in NZ? My reading suggests the silicon RTV products should not be used with diesel long term.
  17. They keep deferring the cutoff date for sale of non complying 2 stroke motors up to 19kW/25hp, now 1 July 2020 https://www.shipmate.com.au/news/govt-defers-two-stroke-ban-for-12-months/ this also applies to all land use 2 strokes, ie gardening equipment generators etc. As Australia and NZ are generally treated as one market by most distributors the supply of small 2 strokes from at least the name brands will probably dry up here as well. It was interesting observing in the islands, apart from the 2 stroke Yamaha Enduros which have always been the default choice, there were alot of new Merc
  18. you are mixing your Wilsons there, Quintessence was by Bob and Richard, Brin's sons.
  19. keep a close eye on the rigging work. Friend bought a yacht in Spain beginning of the year, had all standing rigging replaced in Barcelona. Arrived back in NZ a month ago. When I was looking over her noted rust creeping up from one of the swages on a lower, closer inspection showed at least 1 strand was broken and other on their way. I prefer compression type fittings on the bottom of the stays.

in spite of Cation breaking her mainsheet somewhere in the vicinity of Cape Brett. Loads on these cats are phenomenal
  21. you are probably spending alot more time at low revs than you realise which will pull your average consumption down

Rehab is currently on the market https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/yachts/multihull/auction-2370476126.htm?rsqid=0817d6f015964075b4e4f806292a9084-002
  23. Sunday - motoring down from Whangamumu to Kawau, What a glorious day. Sunrise was spectacular. Anyone else silly enough to go for a swim? It was freezing!!
  24. I remember that yacht, first saw her in Neiafu and then in the Bay of Isles in the Lau Group. He anchored in the middle of Ship's Cove on about 100m of chain making it very difficult for everyone else to fit in. We heard the owner had contracted Dengue and had to be medivac'd out
