  1. No I don't think they were dishonest. But certainly not what we today would consider as "Good" Detective/Policing skills. All those Detectives bringing about similar results of many wrongly convicted people are all gone from the force today. They were old school. Bad habits, non professional. They viewed a suspect as if they were judge and jury and convicted them in their own minds, instead of looking at and for facts and facts alone. Today, our Police tend to be a lot more "professional", receive much better training and have had many examples of very poor Policing history which has actually
  2. There is one and only one reason why Watson is not being released. Purely and simply, he will not admit remorse, because he will not admit guilt. I think that tells you a lot about the guys character. Choosing to remain somewhere you don't want to be purely because you want to remain honest with yourself and everyone else. That's real integrity in my book. He is one of only a few that have basically a true life sentence where one can remain locked up for ever, with the only chance of Parole being subject to acknowledging one's guilt. Our legal system is no different to many other Count
  3. 15kts?? That can't be right. Surely a mistake. Or is this the first of the usual WTF's we the Public usually start to have after a Gvt purchase
  4. Just to let interested People know, this batch has all gone.
  5. Specs here if anyone wants to know. https://www.ritarpower.com/uploads/ueditor/spec/RA12-150.pdf
  6. Yes they require someone that knows what they are doing to set them up correctly. CRA can either do that for you or advise you how to do it.
  7. My mate that does the metal recovery side of things has some batteries that have just come out of a backup system. 12V 150Ahr things. Long thin looking things. I have placed a tester in them and it tells me they have a SOH of 100%. As far as we know, they have never been cycled. They have come from a very sophisticated system and kept at optimum float voltages for their life, which is ruffly 3yrs. They are VERY heavy, VRLA type with bolt terminals. The price will be around the $180 each mark, although I need to confirm that with him. Or said another way, will nail him done with a firm quote so
  8. The Buoy's used by the Marlborough clubs were made by themselves. They take a Windy Buoy, cut a hole in each side and seal a PVC tube through the thing, A lenght of tube sticking out each side and the top rope threaded through the tube. When unhitched from the boat, the eye sits in an upward attitude about 1 to 1.5m above the water level (depends on buoy size and length of tube sticking up) so as it is easy to hook with the Boat hook and then slip over the bow. Works really well. CRA make a hard buoy version. A SST tube it used instead of PVC. Much harder wearing. The tube is flared both end
  9. We used to try talking people out of using a Fergi and thus only sell when someone really needed one because there was no better alternative. They are great for spotting your buoy, especially in the dark and the ease of accessing the top rope is second to none. But there the positives end. They are expensive, require a lot of expensive rope work for the top line, if you want it to work perfectly and the real big negative is the knocking on the bow. In the right conditions, they can come against the bow and knock away and drive you completely nuts if you are trying to sleep aboard on the moorin
  10. AGM and GEL are also Lead Acid batteries, but have a different means of covering the plates with Acid. I will start with GEL batteries, because the rule is pure and simple. Gell should not ever be Equalization charged. Unless you have a very specific instruction from the manufacturer that says you can . As soon as Gel gasses, it is shot. Not all AGM's can be EQ charged. As IT said, check with the manufacturer. The battery has to be designed for this to be able to be done safely. It requires specific design in the interplate connections. This usually results in more expensive batteries a
  11. Disturbingly cheap. I haven't worked out where the exhaust comes out though. You do not want that in the Cabin. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/caravans-motorhomes/parts-accessories/other/listing-2640299135.htm?rsqid=b476dd40b01e49fda38854bd3344a218-010 Another "I have no idea how they do it" kind of cheap unit to consider is this https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/caravans-motorhomes/parts-accessories/other/listing-2642039675.htm?rsqid=8846ccfcccc2494a89a965b672475b84-008
  12. I don't have an issue with what he did. However, I would have an issue if he did this without telling anyone where he was going. I also imagine he might have underestimated the distance and thus amount of fuel he needed. I suspect he broke down due to being out of Fuel. The distance he traveled is a heck of a long way and he would have needed a lot of fuel on board. The weather can turn nasty out there quickly and the tidal current is fast in places. Underestimating the trip time by not accounting for those two things is easy to do. A mate of mine and I have crossed the strait in a Jet Ski
  13. They work well. Very expensive though
  14. Not having a sounder is like not wearing your seatbelt. It can also be a navigation aid when coastal cruising. Use can use it to follow depth contours and that helps plot your position on the chart. I hate entering an unknown bay without one.
  15. I cant say never when it comes to lectronics and that fellow Murphy. But it is not a common way for them to go. Normally it is go or no go. However, if you had no AF coating on it, then growth could once again be an issue. It only takes a week or so for any clear realestate to be snapped up by those marine invaders. You do need to put some kind of coating on the transducer. Just ensure old is removed before new applied so it does not get too thick.
  16. The reason it starts back up again when the power is re supplied is due to a yellow wire (I think it was yellow) being connected to the Red power wire. This bypasses the panel switch so as the unit powers up as soon as an eternal switch/breaker is turned on. That does not solve the problem of it turning off on it's own though. I imagine there is a cold solder joint internally. To be honest, I doubt it is worth repairing. Fish, your unit has possibly got fouling on it's surface. The weaker signal bounces off the Keel and it gets a false shallow reading. Too much AF paint can also do it
  17. Jon, it's not a capacitor on the end. It is a temp sensor. The sensor is normally glued to the case of a battery, or samwedged in between the cases of two batteries. It is quiet possible it is faulty. They only way to really know is to replace it. You can do without it. It is not a circuit that has a lot of current draw, so no huge temperature variances during charging. If you ever needed to replace the Charge Unit, then go for the same thing again. They have a good reputation. DutyFree, you may need to explain a little more. It is just a 24V Charger that uses the 12V Bank as the supply
  18. The cheap Coolants need replacing yearly and there are a lot of cheapies out there. If you want a quality coolant without paying through the nose, the Penrite range is extremely good, with their top end coolants having a 5, 7 and 8yr cycle life. However, when using coolants that can span that far, I suggest you get a test done every couple when getting toward the far end of it's life. Coolants are the wrong word to call these additives. They do cool to an extent and they also safe guard against freezing, but the most important role is anti corrosion. They are Corrosion Inhibitors. I have s
  19. The story as told from the Cpt of Monawai is a spectacular read as well. http://www.bluesuit.co.nz/1994.htm Yes we have better weather prediction these days, but i think more importantly, we have a lot more heavy weather gear available as well. Especially the drogue department. The account from the owners of one particular Boat we looked at was the reason why we went FC. They sailed right through this along with a group of other FC boats and arrived in Fiji with no knowledge of what was going on out there behind them.
  20. As alternative fuel/electric vehicles increase on our roads, this is likely to become the best way of charging road tax. Although it is also a way to rip of small vehicle drivers unless the system becomes more complex. For instance, we used to have a 2 tonne and 3 tonne rate. Now we have one rate of 0 upto 3.5 tonne. So vehicles within that 3.5 tonne are all charged at the same rate of 0.072 cents per Km. Where as with the RUC held within the fuel tax, smaller Vehicles paid less because they tend to use less in the way of Fuel. It was a little more fair.
  21. I was watching an interview on TV and they had a question answer kind of thing with the Person being interviewed. I cannot remember who it was they were interviewing. It was either JA herself or perhaps it was the head of Police. I have been watching far to much and it is all blurring together now. All the things i listed were a No and the reason given where as I said. They even stated that this is why Hunters can go onto Private land (if they can find a Farmer that will let them) but not Doc land. Because if something went wrong, S&R would be involved, and they do not want that. That does
  22. All these can I, Why can't I questions are very easy to clearly answer. Under level 3, you can pop down to the boat to check it over, but there are stricked rules in relation to keeping distance from other people. However, you cannot row out to the Boat. Reason is, rowing out puts you at risk of something going wrong and if something goes wrong and you need rescuing, then you put the rescuers at risk. So you cannot row out to a Boat on a Mooring. I know it's silly and there is greater risk crossing the road than falling out of the Tender, but them''s the rules and that's the reason why.
  23. Yes absolutely. Is it worth you listing some Chargers that have all those kind of bells a Whistles IT?? Especially if you sell any of them
  24. It's all a bit more complex.....as usual when it comes to batteries. Firstly, keeping a trickle charge on a battery is good. Can't go wrong with that part. But that is not the end of the story. Basically, it doesn't matter what you do, a Lead acid battery deteriorates in same way, even left fully charged. From the day the battery was born and accepted it's very first charge, the Chemical reaction that creates the Electrical energy, slowly eats away at the life of the plate. Also, once the plate voltage drops below 12.6V, the plates start to Sulphate. Trickle charging will stop sulphat
