  1. We left halfmoon bay in a rush one friday afternoon last year -wife loaded the boat up nicely and i went straight to the boat from work so in dress pants, shoes and shirt - kicked off the shoes and drove boat out to Rakino to get there before it got dark - anchored and enjoyed a beer (which the wife had even loaded in the fridge). Come bed time i stroll downstairs into the cabin and look for my clothes bag... Hmmmm Wife had packed hers, and sons ( not mine, i asked and she cracked up laughing as she realised that she had unloaded the boot but left my bag in the back seat of the car...
  2. Thanks - will pull the panel off the roof tonight and get that photo. No black marks that i can see.
  3. Haha they were in the sun - hence one of them works one doesnt. @CrazyHorse - not really in that when you measure the Open Circuit voltage the current isnt at 5amps. Likewise when you measure the short circuit current the voltage drops a little. you cant measure the two together and get that. @StrayCat - Panels are probably 5 years old but they were bought by previous owner of boat so not sure where from etc. there is diodes in the connector box on the back of the panel itself.
  4. Cheers KM - i have two identical panels, and one is working mint so got a pretty good test bed. I hate throwing stuff away that i cant explain how they are broken! So curiousity will probably have me buy a new one for the boat, then play with this one at home to learn some more.
  5. So thinking some more- the voltage drops to 9 volts, which is basically half the Open Circuit Voltage (VoC). So now im wondering if its a blown diode kicking out half the cells? Anyone know any way to test that if i cant find a panel the same size to test
  6. Well Island Time you were right - its dead... I put a load on the panel (lightbulb drawing 1amp) and it lit the light but the voltage dropped to 9 volts straight away. on the other panel if i did the same the voltage stayed around 17 volts. So panel dead, now to find a new one the same size so its fits in same place!
  7. Thanks team - it was the same cable - I literally disconnected at the actual solar panel and moved it to the second panel. So i can rule out cable between panel and controller. Will measure Voltage at same time as doing Isc (Current Short Circuit).
  8. So one for the electrickery boffins out there. My boat has two x 100W Polycrystal solar panels fitted side by side on the flybridge. (Specs are below) It has a 30Amp PWM charge controller. If i connect one panel i get 5amps charging, if i disconnect that panel and plug in the second panel i get no current charging... So one assumes the panel is dead This is where it gets funky... If i test the Open Circuit voltage (Voc) i get 21.8v on both panels. If i test the Short Circuit Current (Isc) i get 5.89A . So it seems as if the panel is performing to spec but when connected to the
  9. Working Girl was built in NZ by a friend before it went to San Fran.
  10. Need to use new wire piece, so the wire ends up one cone length shorter.

Leave it raw... Nyalic is a pain on rigs as flapping sails pull it off, and any scratch then looks crap.
  12. Remembering that alot of the Yachties that went to the dark side, now use their said "Wake Makers" or Stink Boats, to start wind bludger races and lay courses too! - Not to mention doing it whilst cooling the beer and carting the BBQ around. Oh that reminds me - the Single Handed weekend at BBYC is coming up - come see what i mean

Ah thinking now that would be where the black chilli bag floating by Bean Rock came from? Someone joked it had beer in it and we should have grabbed it - turns out it was probably true!
  14. Looked for a while for the launch - and ended up buying an Aqualarm off the website. I found a few places that did Reed Switches that i looked at using but not easily...
  15. If you have an easy way to drop the rig - (Think i saw elsewhere you do?) - you can get a long piece of 3 or 4mm rigging wire, and push it from the sheave down the rig when its horizontal - its stiff enough to track along inside the rig. Tape a loop of string to it so you have something to fish out at the halyard slot...
  16. There arent dinghy lockers there - just racks? They are managed by BBYC - contact the office there. www.bbyc.org.nz
  17. Yeah had to put new cockpit speakers in the 88 after my wife dropped her car keys in the marina, easiest quickest magnet i could think of was a cockpit speaker - they are water resistant not water proof fyi - made them old pretty quick haha
  18. Old Cockpit speakers are a good source of big magnets

I would give Sparloft a call - they supplied most of them. There were two sorts - one is two piece and riveted up the sides, the other is one extrusion. http://www.sparloft.co.nz/sparloft-mast-sections.html According to this site it was the SP150.108
  20. We have a roll call so far as: Open Dirty Deeds Catabatic Stealth Mission Voom Sledge Space Station Heartlight Wild Oats Ocean Express Lightfoot Crocodile That Girl Glandestine Jet Dissedent Manawa Zap Restricted Protocol Bandicoot 9 (Elliott 9) Xebec Cordite Touch of Glass Lanikai Yasawa Anyone else coming to play?
  21. They dont control them - they are used to raise them...
  22. At least 3 so far - have got entries from Sledge, Voom and Dirty Deeds. But always welcome more Have heard back from 18 boats so far confirming they are coming, and there are about another 12 that have entered last year that im awaiting confirmation back from - so should be its usual massive event!!
  23. This weekend folks - let us know if your keen to join so we can arrange the catering and rum supply
  24. Yeah we had no bolts in the mercenary windows - given how much that boat flexed before we beefed the window mullions up im surprised they never leaked! But they held strong!
  25. Yeah i had a similar issue in Mercenary, and ended up finding a Transducer in its box in the second hand pile at BoatBits takapuna for $100 - score! It solved the issue so might be transducer... But maybe try with Farrari's display.
