  1. Re the launches, I have personally been involved with advising on window coverings for a few, went with ply resin and alloy frame backup onto rubber gaskets, bloody dark inside but bolted through the coamings probably strengthened the boat. Another large Auckland launch -we were never asked when got clearance but we had shutters for the forard windows and she was metal and built to 100 Lloyds A1.
  2. You could squeeze a lot of those boats on the harbour 😀
  3. The report describes the boat both as sandwich (cored) construction and as solid glass? Which leads me to believe that the author doesnt know, i believe that model to be solid glass therefore if the deck is already flexing you are in trouble , I still dont believe even with considerable distortion that the hatch would open itself though there is no strength in their frames so maybe, was the boom heard a crucial bulkhead letting go- in which case you have a spaghetti boat? These are all questions that we will never know the answers to. We do however know that many of that eras Bavarias had sign
  4. Yes a very nice guy, corresponded with him for a while in the eighties then bought the first Norwalk Island sharpie plans in this part of the world, he jokingly said that he would visit when we won the Americas Cup! Never did build the boat-too busy sailing conventional keelers here and building dinghies. $695.00 was the price each month in Seaspray -yes that is for a complete Laser and it was a lot of money, but it wasnt long till the Zephyrs under Tamaki yacht club were being ignored and they had a good fleet of Lasers. Dont know how many Murray Crockett built here?
  5. The worrying note in the report refers to the deck and cabin noticeably flexing prior to the final knock down, this and the unknown state of the keel attachment along with the open forward hatch undoubtedly contributed to the fast sinking of an otherwise well equipped yacht being sailed by more than averagely experienced crew.
  6. Ah thanks we will go past on our annual Clevedon trip.
  7. Please can some one tell me where Denis rock is? I am not Flap but I like to think I know my way around the harbour
  8. Hey Shimmer what happened to your old skeg? I may have a use for it..
  9. Having always worked in the Auckland based marine industry, I wish to refute Foggs claims but find that I can not. In fact personal experience backs them up, and further to that having worked for some of these larger operators I am shocked how little time or effort was put into technical or on the job training, these are the same ones (people) working on the superyachts, luckily many of the superyacht 'engineers' these days only seem to know how to pick up a phone. Back when I started all marine companies-be they chandlers sailmakers riggers engineers had a system of putting the newbies under
  10. My recollection was that the mold was taken off Jack Murrays Marshall Law.
  11. Yes they were originally made by TX now badged as many different names, Beta one will be fine.
  12. Panuku are not selling, the current lease holders are.
  13. Someone told me the dyed mullet blew forward and the person formally known as KM thinking he was blind has reinvented himself , a bit like Prince did a few times. Only time will tell..
  14. Still leasehold land isnt it? Like the new Orams development likely to all be apartments in a few years, its the Panuku way.
  15. Looks like and old Fico block so the Ronstan options will be the closest - with adjustable cleat lead angle.
  16. Come on all you B division boats Black Pearl etc
  17. There are a lot of 40' odd yachts that this would be ideal for.
  18. Ok entries in last night, who else is coming for this Westhaven to Westhaven event? Could be NZ's Fastnet in a few years.
  19. Yes unfortunately Milford was possible for beamy multis before the bridge was built by going around the outside of the sill but no more.

    Cool Boat

What I dont agree with is that you cant build the same here for similar money-look at the RM boats built in France.
