  1. Strange how ETNZ charged us (the taxpayer ) for the initial design of the first vessel -then sold it on to Prada and Stars and Stripes, did we get a refund?

    Boat Show

Under the current rules I dont see how this show can go ahead, many in the industry are waiting for the BIA to pull the pin, three shows cancelled in France last week and one in Germany, plus the biggest trade show for the industry METS in Holland. It costs a fortune to display and understandably the association are reluctant to make a call as that is where a lot of their income is derived but is it right for this year?

    Slight issue

With no one allowed to leave Australia it may be tricky getting the race director Ian Murray into NZ, I guess he could work from home... Not long to go
  4. Great news that the new Trillian rescue boat is now stable enough to be delivered, that is a dinghy not a life raft.

    Lithium v AGM

I would advise extreme care, am aware of a number of new battery overheat fire issues in NZ that have not made the press. The battery management regime is critical.
  6. D130 is an IST Shibaura marinised by Perkins in England and sold as Volvo, 2003 is all Volvo, the D130 jap motor will last many more hours- just saying.
  7. Come on you classic dinghy sailors that we see at Mahu each year lets enter and not let the foiling youf have all the fun, show them that gentlemen can sail with decorum in tiny boats, options to get back to Westhaven in case of wild Souwester are available.
  8. If you shift your dinghy by oar as i do , the OC tender is not for you.
  9. Except row like a speedy thing , though we tested ours rowing them round Motukorea and back and they will get you and crew home after drinks with dry attire unlike a rubber duck.
  10. The big Nutshell will do everything you want, I have been involved in building many of the shorter ones and still use one as my only dinghy, has been towed to the BOI and back many times and sailed at all anchorages. You have probably walked over her getting to the dock for tall ships parties each year.
  11. Milford cruising club is a good bet with the combination of cruising and shorter tidal races - all handicapped they will have fun and learn the inner gulf.
  12. No this will be a brand new Beale 10 Los Molinos is over 20 years old
  13. A sad day for the crew of her over the years , scary how quick she went down at least the crew are ok , I guess the only thing to do is a wake at the Northcote Tavern? Anyway there is another ply rum racer almost complete at Milford to take her place soon on the start lines.
  14. Add to Veladares list the narrow catamarans hidden at Devonport that were built for SAS and trimmed by the stern so too dangerous to use even when throttle stopped.
  15. Amusingly our Devonport based Navy and the Commander of this ship has requested we go and welcome her in as a number are doing right now , the funny part is they requested us to form up orderly and wait in the Orakei Basin till the right time! I guess this is just another example that we have very few boating people in the Navy any more
  16. Actually in 85 they changed From the ancient Kauri legs to steel. I helped remove some of the messy kauri ones from where they washed ashore😇

    Whoops!

ETNZ tipped over again this time not planned .....
  18. Nope and soon will be a year with no parking near our berth no apology in fact they assured us that the carpark would be finished by February result more carpark dug up and barricaded off, rather than putting the price up yet again you would think Panuku should be following the countrywide be nice line haha. Panuku squandering more ratepayers funds with no mandate to do so.
  19. Etnz out in Rangi channel really smoking, at first I thought it was the youth AC boat floundering at Northern Leading - then they got the sails set and zoom
  20. I have done just this the last two years , refuse to pay YNZ fee through five yacht clubs and nominated one. This of course creates a great deal of hassle for the smaller clubs and I doubt that they have pursued it just pretended that I paid . However it is a point of principle and as I age more I note that the most fun regattas and events are organised outside YNZ !
  21. Ah but under level three you are allowed to go out into the bush with your camo gear on and shoot at your mates - I mean dangerous animals, but still not go sailing ?? on TV one tonight WTF
  22. Interesting to see the big Riv crasher coming back up the harbour when we finally get a breezy forecast yesterday, police said hi off Devonport but he carried on - I guess he does Live aboard anyway.
  23. If sulphur point has prevented you from accessing your own vessel then they have also taken on the responsibility for its wellbeing and with it the insurance implications.
