  1. Then of course there is the wider longer one hiding up Albany way, and the lovely cedar strip one that I sailed on when new, resting down Takapuna way- all great boats
  2. Err some have described the owner thus....
  3. No that is not a Delta - which were designed and built in GI, that is a Ron Given Dot, I have had one for years but would not use it for a big payload or transport on an offshore yacht, our Joel White designed nutshells are far superior -Plans from Wooden Boat magazine or occasionally they come up on trademe. Tow very well sail very well and row as good as a 7'7"boat can.
  4. In the mean time ships anchoring off Russell BOI and visiting Auckland harbour are not inspected which shows how serious the NRC are, and these same ships can use whatever antifoul they like ( up to a few years ago containing tin)
  5. Although the first Pelagic Webb was given did not last at all
  6. There was some of that antifoul vv cheap at the Orams store oversupply from a superyacht recently, and another American brand that is so good the manufacturer is resting behind bars at present . So do you want a clean hull or a green hull? Myself I stick to No 5 and get 2.5 years out of it -why change?
  7. That old Reptile cant be far off??
  8. Things must have changed they were ballasted back in my day - hence the propensity to sink (mulletys)
  9. We would not have even been in Bermuda without Pradas help or Matteo for that matter, and I for one am looking forward to the flying (sort of) monos . You do not need to be doing 40 knots to have good racing, And a full crew of yachties being active sailing the boat will be great.

    Monohulls

Good job, better viewing, and more relatable
  12. An electrical contractor and friend was installing some equipment on mine the week before Christmas last , he got the same thing mid week no one about, when I kicked up at Westhaven they shrugged their shoulders and said something along the lines of out of our hands its Wilson. Which I feel was a miserable gutless cop out he was 5 mins over the alloted time to shift . By the way there is one patrolling the parks everyday this week, so be warned - and fellow marina tenants stamp your feet and demand the temp tickets for anyone working on your boat, they have been offered, and just because the g
  13. He has got Dodgy taste in boats though KM , I helped build it originally...
  14. Marinheiro I know the gentleman that you refer to and over many years +20 he has always been this polite to me and delivered on time and on or under price , despite this one or two boatbuilders have taken advantage over the years.
  15. Working in the industry-I find this sort of thing constantly frustrating, admittedly usually from the young guys (under 40) when I ask for a quote I want a quote -not a guess. And the one rule that always holds true is : when the job is finished I offer to pay straight away, those who accept that, are straight and proper business people, those who say I have got to make up your bill -then send it more than a week later sometimes 8 weeks later do not deserve to be paid quickly as they are feeling guilty, or have conjured it up out of fresh air- and are obviously not proud of their workmanship

    Yacht brokers

Unfortunately I believe that his experience is not unique, the old school quality brokers in Auckland appear to have all left the industry, I could name 20 good ones from the eighties -but none active now.

    BMW D7

The last agent in NZ was Performance Imports in Cambridge, the water pump is a Johnson, and the engine is actually a Hatz.
  18. More freeboard, as we get older we get less tolerant of the NZ moth splosh splash...... just guessing
  19. Yes I had forgotten that flyby at pace - it was truly brilliant, and yes another Orma from across the ditch hopefully. But back to real yachts I see that Wired is getting a new keel and maybe we might see a smaller Bakewell -white design that was exported years ago back soon -that could spice up the smaller classes.
  20. Could this year be the most interesting coastal for some time? With a MOD 70 approaching NZ , Frank Racing and the new 'cruising" cat from Roger Hill and the Trimaran from Vietnam certainly the multihull boys & girls will be having fun. So what quick Monohulls will be lining up.....

    Lost kite

Saw it floating east of Orakei wharf, decided it wasnt a person and had a bit on ourselves so carried on... sorry
  22. The cropp boat had a near sister in Mangonui (near Butlers point) covered in guano, last seen in Opua, the hobson bay one I have only seen towed around since electrification!!
  23. The empire builders at Yachting NZ are proceeding onwards ignoring the wishes of their members. Now they are demanding YNZ affiliation fees from every club that you belong to. Many of us belong to a number of yacht clubs and we are advised that we have to pay again and again, not as has happened in the past nominate the club that you choose to pay this levy through. Little wonder that many smaller clubs are refusing to hand over their membership details (on privacy grounds of course) And just paying a nominal number of senior equivalent members. Surely a number of you are caught in this cynic
