  1. Could this year be the most interesting coastal for some time? With a MOD 70 approaching NZ , Frank Racing and the new 'cruising" cat from Roger Hill and the Trimaran from Vietnam certainly the multihull boys & girls will be having fun. So what quick Monohulls will be lining up.....

    Lost kite

Saw it floating east of Orakei wharf, decided it wasnt a person and had a bit on ourselves so carried on... sorry
  3. The cropp boat had a near sister in Mangonui (near Butlers point) covered in guano, last seen in Opua, the hobson bay one I have only seen towed around since electrification!!
  4. The empire builders at Yachting NZ are proceeding onwards ignoring the wishes of their members. Now they are demanding YNZ affiliation fees from every club that you belong to. Many of us belong to a number of yacht clubs and we are advised that we have to pay again and again, not as has happened in the past nominate the club that you choose to pay this levy through. Little wonder that many smaller clubs are refusing to hand over their membership details (on privacy grounds of course) And just paying a nominal number of senior equivalent members. Surely a number of you are caught in this cynic

    Rope splicing

Its very easy even KM has been seen to do it, or supervise it
  7. Neil smells of coffee, was Johnny Wray (jazz) now Johnny Wray yachtsman
  8. Correct HB thats why they almost always sail to the course edge till hitting a layline instead of traditional sailing up a preferred (breezy) side or covering meaning more tacks.

    AC day 4

Another hard one tomorrow, this is no good for my blood pressure
  10. Agreed I believe the Squadron made the right call after speaking to a large cross section of owners
  11. Hit the nail on the head it was your neighbours, with current boats using propspeed on the prop and maybe shaft you should see very little activity on your anode, most NZ wooden boats are over compensating with anodes causing their own issues.
  12. Glad Im not an ETNZ boatbuilder grinding carbon etc all day and night and bonding bits in imperfect conditions
  13. Wheels is dead right, this comes up every few years -simply put doesnt work no matter how much you may want to believe them.
  14. The Herald having trouble telling Port from Starboard today unless the photo is reversed........

Indeed -even a wildly modified Ross 30 would be safer
  16. Strange behaviour by the squadron patrol boat shortening the course on saturday at orakei -if that was indeed what they were doing, First Tiri sat by the breakwater then took up a position between North Head and the Orakei mark then shifted back to the Kelly Tarltons side of the mark as if to finish boats there which would make sense, didnt hear sound signals but saw the flag - I think they confused a few Stewarts a Ross 830 and MRX at least....
  17. Built Glendowie by John ........ cant remember yet, but owned for 20plus years by the late great Trevor Coubray a wonderful and hilarious guy -Mooringologist then commander of Okahu Bay hardstand and friend of yachtsmen everywhere. He took the flathead ford ten out and replaced it with the second hand Bukh 20 driving backwards through belts !! Did she come with the Merv Seefont clinker dinghy that Trev sold her with and was still on board ten years ago at Westpark?
  18. Looked like a Tourism Auckland promotion
  19. Good shot for those waiting in Opua to see what develops this week....

Re the big guys going this way: some years ago at Sanctuary Cove I had a look at the first First 30 of the current shape in Aussie came back here all excited costings were cheap looked great then did some figures, similar sizing to an 88 all good a lot cheaper than an 88 all good, 60% heavier than an 88 all bad, in a hull that was designed to be light and frisky big production polyester boatbuilding just couldnt do it . If built by Cooksons that yacht could sparkle, but done by Bene -well the videos prove it downwind in a gale just mushing along where an 88 or Ross 30 in particular would be se
  21. BP it is a Victron monocrystalline from Lusty and Blundell
  22. Put a victron monitor and bigger batteries in before xmas, now very relaxed about house loads and amazed how much a small good quality solar panel generates
  23. Yes have seen several dreadful attempts lately, but the Boat Coat guy seems to do it properly, and have more experience.

Ply is the one material that with WEST epoxy can be fixed and repaired as good as new, certainly in the case of Pivers and a lot of early Spencers better than new if they were bonded with Aerolite.
