Marinepests.nz - reference for marina requirements & council rules
waikiore replied to Zoe's topic in MarineTalk
When the Northland council dives on the hulls of cruise liners anchored off Russell then I will take them seriously, until then them and their square barnacles are just a joke, I can sail all around the bay and Whangaroa without ever going near a marina, and yes my hull is clean as I dont want any drag. -
Re the OC tender, a nice idea but never seen one rowed which is how my dinghies move, when not being sailed.
-
Oh I dont know, the squadron handicappers seem to have quite a convivial time! There is a pic floating around somewhere...

With the current tight policy from Northland towards Auckland boats coming North, what is Aucklands policy towards boats from the BOI coming south with the new dreaded square barnacle -never seen before in Auckland? -
Willow you are absolutely right, and with the various 52's there is potential for some tight racing and a close finish up there.
-
frank has more than one hull, so not in this discussion
-
Yes that was my feeling, the TP's are pretty quick all round the compass, so could be an interesting year with no Maxi boats...
-
Yes that weight sounds great, I have three hondas and my 8hp long shaft is past 50kg pushing a 25' keeler to almost seven knots but very economic and charges battery, manual start though. Also have a 20hp suzuki which is very impressive, self powered electronic fuel injection manual start though as well.

Ok who will be the first yacht to Russell?, one hull no trainer floats.
-
Owners -HMB or OBC pay a lot less than those leasing, so it largely depends on which Marina you refer to.
-
Yes the Cavallis we go through too however I am fully concentrating at the time particularly with a sea running and I have experienced a fair bit of tide set there too, bit like the Rimiriki -Wide Berth area, have taken big boats through the inside with not much speed hi sun and spotters.
-
That explains why they turned down a ready made option at Okahu Bay that would upset no one, not to mention that Takapuna would be close to home for someone....
-
Yes I am about to build a bigger one - from ply / epoxy would like clarity on what constitutes securely held.
-
Correct if the National programme don't run it then it probably belongs with Womens Day with many of the other headlines, its a shame to see the Herald slipping lower and lower, because no one reads what has been written before rushing to print patently wrong headers.
-
Yes they were great boats, lots of fun building them at the newly acquired Okahu bay headquarters in the early seventies, in fact it was Bruce Vallely who encouraged us schoolkids to have a go.
-
Probably lucky that he was on a Variant, sound little boats
-
Big tide this morning and pulled round to Orams hauled out and being prepared to be trucked north as a land based ship

The spore killing ingredient to Everdure was taken out in 1984, as it will also kill boatbuilder. It is only an extremely thinned epoxy now - solvents flash off leaving porosity, don't waste your money.
-
good to see you are going for a superior Lug, the best rig for a dinghy
-
Ahem yes I use Brett too, for Honda and Suzuki, saw him sea trialling today the lucky devil.

And to add to that OBC and Milford in Auckland give you a fair indication of the true costs, of course having one person owning Westpark Pine Harbour and Bayswater will not help prices drop. Still the only reason for Westparks high yearly Opex seems to be their readiness to accept a large number of liveaboards, and ignore the local councils maximum percentages. I look forward to the new facility on the Northern side of Westhaven making things easier for a number of liveaboards down there too.
-
Yes its a mystery to me how westpark get away with the highest Opex charges, not many years ago we were introducing willing sellers to willing buyers of 12M berths up there on a Saturday morning at the chandlery - the price set was $5.00 each 12M berth. As far as I can see there is no reason for it to have risen, quite the opposite we had full access at all tides then! Of course even the chandlery has collapsed now.

Not the first cat to sail itself over on a mooring, we had one start coming across the yard at Okahu Bay hardstand one year and another flip off its drums.
-
Can be surprisingly easy to get rid of ferro boats, I was involved in removing a couple some years ago for a previous Harbourmaster, we tied them to a barge and got them as high as possible on the ramp at Okahu Bay then removed any usable fittings and with a very small bobcat tapping the hull and loading a tip truck reduced to stuff sweepable with the yard brooms within 15 minutes -- nothing to see. A bit sad that somebodies 70's dreams should end up like that - but that is the market. Also the one that hit Tapeka point on its way to join the cruising rally a year or two back dissolved fair

ETNZ appear to be heading out for a rum race....
