There seem to be a lot of unasked questions around this story, all we know is that he ran into rough weather and that knocked out his GPS, no idea why he stopped sailing and just drifted in his Wharram ? getting hungrier and hungrier...

Any updates ? I couldnt make it

Yes he is known to many around the waterfront , Re NZL20 as a viewing platform like Cloudbreak she will need a much larger anchor set up, and no one has told them that to be self propelled there is no where to bolt the outboard!!

Those Stewart sailors arent buying enough rum over the bar ! Seriously though two glasses of Chardonnet last week at members pricing $35.00 and they wonder why we drink on board. Buy a round of drinks for the crew $70-80 and if we won - you get a $38.00 bottle of rum you do the maths.

Well AT has paid NZ Bus a top up to enable them to pay the Auckland drivers the same hourly rate as Wellington Christchurch and Dunedin drivers get but NZ bus has decided to pocket the money.

I had an interesting one many years ago -approaching the gate off the tamaki river in a tug towing a barge at 10pm fully dark, showing correct lights a subritzky (now Sealink) car ferry came straight for us on an opposing course heading out to Waiheke (there was plenty of depth) they kept on towards us despite me making a radical turn off course to avoid them and calling on the VHF , meanwhile I was buzzing my sleeping crew up from down below on the emergency horn and signalling by horn to them -as they swept by I could see straight into the wheelhouse -where they were watching TV!! I give it a hell waterblast and the rest falls off, achieves two things , a good fresh water rinse-so that it drys properly and the new paint totally adheres -and no build up going forward, aim for every two years-but last time got three (Westhaven) works even better in the mixed water of Wairau Cove.
-
Oh of course-but I dont carry that usually .

Its extremely hard compared to what i use ,( have been dealing with antifoul since the mid seventies) before Micron 25 -the first self polishing ablative was launched in NZ. After that revelation -they still were allowed Tributyl Tin in them then, I swore that I would never again touch E Type or Jet Black or Red Hand . And have been happy on launch and yachts ever since. Sanding antifoul is not to be recommended for anyone.
-
No antifoul paint man should recommend putting a hard scrubbable (warpaint) over a soft ablative, it will be doomed from the start, sad that you were given obviously crook advice

Great filming by Roger presumably from Achilles Point?

Maritime NZ proposed new anchor watch rule enforcement
waikiore replied to eruptn's topic in MarineTalk
Absolutely right and this has been raised at the Mighty Milf cruising club of the last five years and YNZ promises each year to come back with a more equitable solution to suit the launchies and "social" members. Still waiting............. -

There are good reasons for Maritime NZ to exist. YNZ I am not so sure about, and this is a case in point - get back to throwing large amounts of my money at the vv small number of Olympians David , as that seems to be all that is understood. What have YNZ done for keelboat yachting in say the last 20 years ?? Or for that matter someone sailing a Zephyr, Cherub or R class? -
Of course Gin makes the card easier to read....

Looks like NZ to me, off Parnell I believe I was out that day

Yep seen it many times -that is Northern Hemisphere dip, a few years back Parallel Imported were selling Steiner Commander binoculars at a very good price so I beetled along to check them out, the dip was so bad in the built in compass as to render it unusable.

There is one organised for the night before at Westhaven

There is another old hulk sitting by lower Port Road in Whangarei -I wondered if it was Queenstowns one, does sound like Rudolph -heading for Mahu.
