  1. Yes, he's gone one better than Dan Slater.
  2. With the Predictwind Observations, these can be viewed in Map or Table form, giving you the best of both worlds. The Table just lists the stations shown on the current map, so you can make the Table list bigger or smaller by going to the Map first and zooming in or out to show the ones you want.
  3. MattM, I have the new Coastguard app installed on my Moto G4. Have you tried installing? It's better than nothing. But it is probably better to pay for PredictWind to activate their Observations. In anticipation of the next America's Cup, they have just installed 10 of their own new wind stations, so you can get more readings than Nowcasting. Plus you can view history at each wind station, so you can see the trend over the last 12hr, 6hr, 15 mins.
  4. A new Seapen has just been set up for a large vessel down on U pier, Westhaven. There is something connected to the water tap, which is continuously adding fresh water to the pen. Lucky Westhaven have stopped charging for water! Wheels, their marketing says "SeaPen’s special polymer skin is one of the only materials in existence that resists barnacle growth when kept in Sea Water. No barnacles mean you never need to remove the SeaPen for cleaning." https://dockpro.com.au/classic-seapen/ https://dockpro.com.au/seapen/
  5. Put some dishwashing liquid and water in a spray bottle. Use this to clean all ball bearing fittings.
  6. Black Pearl planning on entering.

    Anchor chain

Best to phone them on 09-444 8212 https://chainsropesandanchors.co.nz/
  8. If you only draw 60cm, then you should fine any time above half tide. More info here: https://www.milfordcruising.co.nz/milford-estuary-tidal-sill/ (Aside: I was taught rule of twelfths on my Coastguard Boarmaster course.)
  9. What is up with the division splits in this race? Some divisions have 5 entrants, others have 36. So if you win div 2, you have to beat seven times as many boats than if you win div 8. I think the organizers should change the bands next year to even them out a bit. Particularly divs 2 and 5. Div1a: 13 Div1b: 24 Div 2: 36 Div 3: 12 Div 4: 8 Div 5: 34 Div 6: 8 (multi 1) Div 7: 7 (multi 2) Div 8: 5 (no extras)
  10. "Lewmar" did the SSANZ series. "Dissident" has been racing out of Westhaven.
  11. Wow what a great article! Really explains what is going on with the council and the marinas. Sounds like we should all join the Auckland Marina Users Associaion, and lobby our councillors to prevent development and sell-offs.
  12. Shame it is on at the same time as the Coastal Classic briefing...
  13. Are they saying that crew can't park in the white spaces on Friday?
  14. From the sailing instructions: 18.0 WESTHAVEN MARINA PARKING OVER LABOUR WEEKEND 18.1 Westhaven Marina is appealing for your support during this period of construction around the marina. Since the visitor carpark will be not be sufficient this year, crew will need to share or use alternative transport options. Over Labour Weekend there will be infringements issued and in some cases towing. Where will we park our cars? Point Erin pools maybe?
  15. If its a slow race the time limit may have some effect. NOR states 1400, SIs say 1500. Wonder which it is?
  16. When we got Cat 3 for Coastal Classic for Elly the inspector insisted we make and carry window shutters.
  17. Bugger, you mean the Boyd Gallery? That was a really handy general store. Where will the locals get their bread and milk now?

    Luna Rossa

Yes, they have gone for the bulge in the hull like TNZ. However their foils have the bulb like USA.
  19. Pretty surprised that people on here don't know about the 500 ton rule. This was drummed into us on the Coastguard Boatmaster course, and clearly stated that all ferries in Auckland must give way to yachts, except the car ferries which are over 500 tons.
  20. The Far East 28R has arrived in NZ! This looks like lots of fun, and very affordable. 28 footer weighs 1300kg. Apparently does 13 knots boatspeed in 10 knots of wind. No cruising though. Good text and video review by BoatingNZ here: https://boatingnz.co.nz/boat-reviews/fareast-28r/
  21. The GB ferries are moving to Westhaven, and will do a big U turn at the Westhaven entrance 11 times per day. All boats must give way and keep 100 metres clear. There will be a flashing light system to warn boaties. This is happening around the end of October. When they close the western entrance later this year, watch out for a bottleneck and traffic jams! https://www.westhaven.co.nz/sealink/
  22. The main is a soft wing sail, 2 piece. Maybe this is what they should be using for the AC?
