We have stayed in the little cove on the southern side just inside the entrance. It was very pleasant in settled westerly conditions.

The 2 leaders are now past NZ and are getting into some lighter winds. The next 2 boats are now getting hammered by a storm south of Stewart Island. 3rd is heaving to in 7m seas, and 4th has diverted 150nm north thru Bass Strait.

I don't understand the divisions. Where can I find a list of the requirements of different divisions? What is the difference between Div 1A and Div 1B? The NOR and SI do not mention these.

Swartie, the Coastguard takes no action if you do not close a TR. I have done this several times, and never been contacted by them. TRs are only used once a search is triggered. Chrisc, Darius triggered 2 searches, so MNZ had to be seen to be doing something. I don't think what they did was unreasonable in this case.

In Auckland Nowcasting is now on 19, 20 and 79 Coastguard now on 60 and 64. -

Coastguard will come and save you if you request it. But have no legal powers to board your boat or tell you what to do.
