  1. Well done Shane!! Wheels, when you say STAY WELL OFF SHORE, how far off do you mean? I guess that would depend on conditions, but what are the parameters?
  2. Venom Enslaved Colleagues, Lewd Ventriloquists Worship Casanovas Boorishly And nice try, Fish but your mnemonic ??? BTW Zozza, it's not "your" thread.
  3. What part of the concept of Rape Culture don't you understand?
  4. One of our members has a signature which reads "Timid Virgins Make Dull Companions, add Whiskey :-)" I find this sort of Rape Culture stuff extremely offensive. Wellington school boys have been suspended for Rape Culture this week. Real men stand up against Rape Culture. http://captainawkward.com/2012/08/07/322-323-my-friend-group-has-a-case-of-the-creepy-dude-how-do-we-clear-that-up/
  5. Steve, what's the ability of a Trismus to recover from a full capsize? These two links don't quite answer the question http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f47/centreboard-trismus-type-vs-fixed-keel-architecture-168670.html http://nordkyndesign.com/transverse-stability-part-4-sailing-yachts-at-sea/

    Feeler gauge

My dad used to keep his feeler gauge well oiled.
  7. Did you unfurl the whole lot and start again?
  8. borax - ant poison. supermarket, hardware?
  9. Saving lives means you're a kill joy? Nice piece of logic.
  10. Actually khayyam there seems to be a convergence now to evidence-based policy making in the public sphere. About bloody time we got rid of crazy ideologues from the ends of the spectrums. I have seen extreme rightists refuse to back a good policy merely because it was put up by someone they hate. I've also seen mad marxists refuse to even talk to anyone who doesn't believe in the "labour theory of value" (the cornerstone to Marxism). I've seen religionists of all stripes wanting to make policy based on their favourite holy books. Parliamentary cross-party christian groups are particularly egre
  11. Scottie I meant intelligent conservatives, not ideological fools who'd cut their noses off to spite their faces. Google search = conservatives "living wage" And BTW did you really mean to say the minimum wage is too low? jonathan, you need to read a bit more widely
  12. Scottie, the evidence shows that everyone is better off when workers get a living wage. Even the conservatives are now acknowledging that. Tuffy, your comment is nonsensical - two wrongs don't make a right.
  13. It would be nice to know if the overseas lofts paid their workers a living wage.
  14. Thanks all for info on chemistry of alcohol.
  15. Acid-base chemistry. Ethanol's hydroxyl group causes the molecule to be slightly basic. It is almost neutral like water. The pH of 100% ethanol is 7.33, compared to 7.00 for pure water.
  16. I had a wonderful interaction with YNZ last Sunday. How did they know I really love to mix it with big waves? They very kindly motored past in their launch probably going over 15 knots well inside 50 m in front of me as I was beating away from a lee shore at McKenzie Bay 1340 hours. I had a wonderful time bouncing up and down. BTW the tide rips around the Bay like crazy. I sailed off the anchor without help of the motor which was idling on standby. That was even more fun.
  17. Seems I now know what ails a few posters on this forum.
  18. I'm presuming it has or can get Cat 1. There's a market for people wanting to get between Oz and NZ and not fly. Assuming, for the sake of the exercise, people would be willing to pay $1000-2000 per passage, has anyone done a feasibility study?
  19. I'm wondering if a much longer painter would have given it swing room before it flipped?
  20. Reduces but doesn't eliminate as I found out once to my cost.
  21. Wash in salt. Rinse in fresh. Saves tea towels.
  22. Floating lines can still get dragged under a prop and fouled. I have two painters. One is shorter than the length of the dinghy and I use it most. I had a little note near my reverse gear lever saying "Check the Dinghy" to remind me to shorten it. The other painter is long for towing the dinghy downwind when I don't want it catching up and smacking the back of the boat. It's also useful on a beach. Both painters are tied to two towing points (I had an eyebolt snap once and had fun retrieving the dinghy.
  23. Hypothermia: You can survive long after exhaustion or unconsciousness with the world's best life jacket.
  24. Thanks Knot me maybe. I appreciate the time, thoughtfulness and sentiments you put into that post.
