  1. Have you got a boat now??? "The chemistry behind the brand segregates a repulsion between water and non polar substances. In essence, it attracts and repels at the same time, creating a friction that will clean your boat of biofilm, oil and plankton as you're going through the water. " Oh dear, sounds like postmodernism again and there were other silly unscientific claims. And if you are going to slag off your opponents you should at least spell their produce name properly (linbide not limbide). The website contradicts itself too. Says you can wipe off with a finger with no pressure. Later sa
  2. Wonderful. Keep the hatches closed and haul on the same side of the ropes, then you don't haul against each other. 20 m/s in knots is 38.8769. What happens it this design if it turns turtle?
  3. Gerry Hughes describes meeting Robin Knox Johnston in a bar and kicking off his sailing around the world dream. http://www.bslzone.co.uk/watch/close-2-gerry-hughes-part-2/
  4. PIcs? Diagram? Use air thin hose venting out from the air pocket to higher level while you fill?
  5. What's the evidence Paul has been rescued before. The article just posted talks about the Coastguard guy: "''That's my second boat I've had to leave at seas and just bring the person or people to safety,'' Mr Phillips said."
  6. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/boats-marine/yachts/keeler/auction-1098773480.htm huge windows would make me nervous offshore. Very cheap would make me look carefully.
  7. Even heaved to and with a jiggler I imagine it ain't easy topping up fuel tanks in those conditions. I'm not prepared to slag him off until we know what happened.
  8. ta willow. I should have guessed sooner. As soon as Matt mentioned the intention to motor I began to wonder. Now I'm wondering why not leave a beacon going on the abandoned boat. It would help in avoiding the hazard and in salvage.

  11. Like towing a bucket of small? size versus towing a bucket of smaller size? I'd love to see some actual measurements from some actual yachts and in various conditions and weights of yachts etc. Once you've reached hull speed it doesn't matter a lot does it? Only matter under certain conditions? So question might be, at what windspeed and what point of sail for what yacht and by what amount will you be slowed dow. My gut feeling is that it would only matter at low windspeeds and the "slowdown curve" in yacht speed prop versus fixed might not be significant.
  12. I'd buy yourself a little dinghy and teach yourself to sail first. https://kmccready.wordpress.com/2014/06/30/sailing/
  13. local engineering shop should be able to make you one or sharpen the old blade
  14. Is your boat moored in Auckland Fish, even if not you might see this as the way of the future for other mooring areas. I know there has been ruckus in Northland moorings lately too.
  15. Will affect me too. Do we have any rights to appeal given that we weren't notified our interests would be affected?
  16. I thought it would also have a lower breaking point than a bowline?
  17. Just discovered a new word and and what looks like an appalling knot. nabby/nabbie/nobby. A type of sailing boat used in Scotland, traditionally having a raking mast, a lugsail, and a jib. Associated chiefly with herring fishing on Loch Fyne and in the Firth of Clyde. (defn is from the full Oxford English Dictionary available to anyone with an Auckland Library card at http://0-www.oed.com.www.elgar.govt.nz/ The appalling knot is on the main banner on this website which mentions a nabby/nobby/nabbie in Ireland http://afloat.ie/blogs/sailing-saturday-with-wm-nixon/itemlist/tag/Wooden%2
  18. Let's just knock one silly meme on the head. Not ALL politicians are bad.
  19. I would not surprise me in the least if corruption and kickbacks were at the root of the decision. Has anyone ever played the board game PolEconomy? Same same.
  20. Good article from Pacific journalist Michael Field on his website You'll have to google it because the mobile website on crew doesn't allow me to paste the url
  21. Wouldn't all extinguishers sold here have to meet t the standards? I decided to squeeze an old one a little in the shower at home. Just a tiny squeeze mind you. NEVER AGAIN! white foam everywhere and what a stink. Fire officer told me the old days where you could have a little practice fire at the local fire station are now gone. Interfered with private industry doing training and making a profit apparently.
  22. Seal and insulate as much as possible then use heat recovery ventilation. For a small boat you'd only need a few watts https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_recovery_ventilation
  23. I duckduckgoed step gradient ramp but am unsure why this differs from ordinary boat ramp
  24. Is it a bilge keeler? A boat trailer should be fine. You'll need a special trailer or frame on the trailer.
  25. Insurance companies might like to recover from them. What are companies saying?
