  1. . Okay I’ll just put a woolly hat and jumper on or better still head north for winter.
  2. I bought a packet of about 50 of those little tea light candles for a few dollars haven’t tried it yet but i would think burning 5 or 10 of them safely in a pot or similar would help heating in a small boat with adequate ventilation Not much of a financial commitment to find out.
  3. You should go over and see what’s up maybe lying inside needing help
  4. New rafts available from China around USA 800 plus same for shipping
  5. Just buy one that’s out of test it will probably work fine and have a good dingy. And smoke alarms and a deck wash hose in case of fire
  6. Because everyone wants and needs a house to live in or pay rent for but a boat is a luxury that will cost you more to own and makes no financial sense
  7. Pretty sad if everyone would be too scared to throw an extra rope on something that looks likely to let go. And pretty easy to make sure that you are improving the situation rather than making it worse. The pictured boat with nothing much holding it would certainly be improved by adding whatever line may be available on the boat but I would not remove the existing old lines. And if it looked like it would hit my boat if it let go then I would definitely do it even if I had to use my own line
  8. And of course in 8 to 10 years you may be too old or your leg may have fallen off or something
  9. You might inspire a few of us. Looks like a nice boat would the trip go close to cost neutral if you sold the boat in nz. I have thought of it but probably the pacific will be all we need.
  10. I was going home in the dinghy the other day between the rows of boats at Panmure. Stopped to secure someone’s mainsheet that had broken with the boom swinging out into the channel Could have been a nasty surprise if you ran into the end of it at night in your yacht.
  11. There’s quite a few dodgy examples on the piles in the Tamaki river.
  12. flat chat was at Fitzroy with plans to be shipped to Fiji for day trip work. I sold careless intent a couple of years ago with a mooring in Okahu bay.,seems she is still there. 40 ft tennant racing tri with the fwd mounted floats and very little room inside.
  13. On there info it says if it’s still there it will still work so more paint should mean more time before it wears out. Which seems to be true it was put on in 3 colours and you could tell when the layers wore off. Still needed occasional cleaning though.
  14. I have just rolled on a mixture of damaged and part cans I got cheap. Totally about 16 litres on a 38 cat so although only 2to 3 coats it went on pretty thick. Starting with international extra then some Jotun seaforce 90 which seems to be for big ships with a 5 year slipping interval and then awlcraft to finish. Bit of a mixture but all in black. Remains to be seen if it works in the Tamaki river. Previously was done with about 7 coats of war paint and managed to stretch it out nearly 4 years and parts of it were still working. I did notice a parore cleaning my Hull though.
  15. each to his own but the neel has plenty of fans and I would be happy to have one at the right price for me, which would be not a lot.
  16. I think that’s the one although it was previously listed as 52 ft from memory
  17. I remember seeing a black and white photo of the same thing when I was a kid probably 50 years ago now
  18. The label on warpaint says as long as it’s there it’s still working, I have stretched mine to 4 years with some scrubbing, seems the previous owner put on about 7 coats so I am going to try the same again with warpaint plus some nautical ablative on top. Will put on maybe 12 litres for a 38 ft cat .
  19. Pretty sure it will stick like peanut butter to a blanket, old antifoul is hardly a perfect surface but the new stuff always seems to stick ok
  20. I looked at the Newick traveller 52 ft that used to be at westhaven, great long distance sailer but not much room at all inside , and the 36 is pretty cramped.
  21. I love having two outboards if one stops coming up the river or amongst moored boats I have instant backup, plus nothing corroding in the water while moored, or dragging when sailing, if you have a heavy boat you probably need a diesel swinging a big prop that is well immersed though.
  22. Tacks through 100 degrees which is pretty realistic for a cruising cat
  23. Easter is usually good weather anyway because of the moon but after Easter it’s time to sell the boat. Probably putting mine on trademe this week after looking at another one yesterday.
  24. I have been there for 5 plus years no problems prefer to pick my time to come and go though tide same direction as wind I don’t go day sailing though. Panmure club is a good option too
