  2. Well, here is the response; Good afternoon Matt, Thank you for contacting the Board regarding LPG installations on Boats. If a gasfitter is required to issue a Gas Safety Certificate for any existing installation, this usually starts with a visual inspection of the installation followed by a gas pressure test. You are correct in stating that the standard includes the statement that compliance with AS/NZS5601.2:2013 it does not apply retrospectively, it does not take the responsibility of the Certifying Gasfitter to require the installation to :-
  3. I'll bet you a good bottle of whiskey it was at the Mokes first, it's come down on the East Auckland current from offshore, and it has spread from the Mokes to all points South. Noting it was found at the Barrier and the Mercs first, and first findings tend to be where there is higher foot-traffic, so to speak, as in people to actually find it. Noting it is naturally occurring in large parts of the Pacific and Australia. All you need is one of those La Nina years to set up the ocean currents and water temp, and hay presto - magic - killer algae. Nothing to do with yachts importing it
  4. hands down a Norths A2. Replaced an MPS. Use it all the time, 150deg up to about 60 apparent. Way more fwd power and less heeling than the old mps, and easy to handle solo - its in an ATN sock, but probably go for a top down furler now... 5. Two votes for a blade. That will save me some! Dollars and distance.
  6. Oh and apparently the mokohinaus too https://www.mpi.govt.nz/dmsdocument/61843-Detection-of-Exotic-caulerpa-Mokohinau-Islands-map Does kinda seem like it must be everywhere if it's at the mokes.
  7. I don't think that means it was detected in 2021. Though I agree it's odd on the map. For reference, here's Waiheke https://www.mpi.govt.nz/dmsdocument/59755-Exotic-caulerpa-Waiheke-Island-as-at-20-Oct-2023 and Kawau https://www.mpi.govt.nz/dmsdocument/59749-Exotic-caulerpa-Kawau-Island-as-at-20-Oct-2023
  8. New j8b a few years back, pointing improved about 5degrees. Thanks Lidgards
  9. Left the Wairoa river on Thursday and motored to Home Bay. Ended up with a dozen or so out there for the evening. Left the next morning in to shifting and rising wind that turned west and the southerly as the day progressed. Out to Noises, then a single tack to Hooks Bay for the evening. Some great fun riding on 15 gusting 20 and nice with no ground swell in Hooks. Only 6 others in there Friday night. Saturday we left for Ponui Island but wind direction made it a trip via Whanganui Island (almost). Shifty at the start the wind settled early in the afternoon and we had a great ri
  10. Yeah, everyone knocks marketing until sales drop through the floor, then it's marketing's fault. You need to consider whether you (we) are the target of the new branding. I'm picking not. We are already clients. The rebrand is aimed at those who are not at the moment. I'm picking the rebrand is to appeal to a younger and more diverse clientele. More members, more $, more support for the service.
  11. Giving this some thought, and now that we know caulerpa is at Rakino / Woody Bay, which is one of my go to / fav anchorages, would I anchor on caulerpa if I knew it was there - no. Not in the foreseable future, if I could avoid it. Normally in Woody Bay I can see the bottom, and it is clear sand. I've dove on it last year (had fishing line around the prop) and there was no caulerpa in the anchorage. I went spear fishing along the reef on the south side, very good current and productive fishing, did not see anything like caulerpa then. Whilst saying I'd avoid it if I can, it is a
  12. Are you being deliberately obtuse?
  13. 3 years ago? the cat is out is well and truly of the bag and probably riding the horse that bolted
  14. Dont worry folks look hard enough and you will find it anywhere you like in the gulf right up to BOI,its there just not reported yet. live with it,deal with it Aussie has been for yrs.
  15. Now found at Rakino: https://www.mpi.govt.nz/dmsdocument/61840-Detection-of-Exotic-caulerpa-Rakino-Island-map/sitemap
  16. Medium weight cruising.connect through bow roller.used when reaching or piles out.crusing only but help gohst in light.carried up to about 15 knt.
  17. Yep, seriously considering MPS or Gennaker. Don't really understand the difference. Then there's A1.5's etc I'm keen on free luff to windward type, but that maybe getting too specialised. What sort of wind range HT? Also weight and material? Do you use with a prod? Thanks!
  18. Yesterday
  19. Each I have owned came with a MPs.used way more than a kite.even the boys when younger could handle it

  21. Exotic caulerpa has been found at Waiheke Island and while there is no Controlled Area Notice at this location, Ngāti Paoa has imposed a rāhui on disturbing the seabed or anchoring within 1 nautical mile (1.8 kilometres) of Thompson's Point or Onetangi Bay.4 days ago https://www.ngatipaoaiwi.co.nz/media-release-caulerpa-2.html
  22. Jokes aside, when the rahui was announced, it was because caulerpa was found around Thomson Point. I'm not aware (and happy to be corrected) but caulerpa hasn't been found in Onetangi itself. It hadn't been at the time of rahui announcement. The rahui also focuses on fishing activties, which is far more common around Thompson point, including anchoring in the spots where caulerpa has been found, and using bottom contact fishing gear. Is it just that anchoring in Onetangi has been conflated by the rahui with anchoring for fishing purposes on Thompson Point?
  23. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I understand deploying an anchor is popular among boaties when they want to go to sleep at night and don't want their boat to drift onto rocks, bang into other boats or drift way out to sea while they are asleep. Some boats, mainly dedicated fishing boats, have GPS spot lock functionality. My understanding is that the battery power is typically insufficient to allow holding a position overnight. Noting the exception to this is the superyacht Artifiact, previously mentioned, that has some massive DC power system that does enable it to hold station without
  24. Rahui is self imposed restriction with no authorised standing. CAN is a different matter.Must be adhered too. I was fishing yesterday in a area that has a Rahui and Yes took my limit of mussels,Why because MPI/Fisheries have called for an extension via public submissions. The Waiheke island Rahui of taking scallops(non take as per MPI) rock lobster, cockles, mussels etc that legal Rahui/MPI restriction ended last October.2023. Only in place for 2yrs Funny part was.We were inspected by fisheries and counted our mussels as we were still inside the supposedly restricted area.No issue and they
  25. I'll reword it. Why would anyone anchor there when............
  26. After years of old baggy 'potatoe sack' sails, and trying to kick the can down the road with second hand sails, getting our first new, purposed designed and built sail was an absolute revaluation in boat handling and performance. The first one was just a cross cut dacron (we have moved onto radial cut cruising laminates now), but we went from being over-powered in gusts and healing over like a bastard, to driving forward in gusts and pointing higher. Boat goes to windward like a freight train now, and with decsent sails we have the ability to fine tune to improve performance and wind rang
  27. It's a tricky one. Why is under rahui but not under CAN? Not an ideal situation. The opinion of locals, as opposed to actual government rules, is also a grey area. If the "locals" were some rich a****** with a mansion on the shore who didn't want to look at boats in "his" bay, we'd all (rightly) tell him to get stuffed. That said, I probably will try not to anchor there. Mostly because it's not my favourite spot in any event though.
