Apparently the owner (not sure if it is the guy recently incarcerated) is hiring someone to drive her to Fiji or the tropics .....

She is not abandoned a number of people live on her constantly.

The worst part is the H/M will stick some on T/M get viewed as a cheap do up and nothing achieved, left to deteriate futher, meanwhile the AK ratepayers pay for the others disposal.

How many have deceased owners and family said"bugger it,some else can have the problem"

Looks like a good start

Think they should be offered as is where is, but one month to move onto the hard or the barge with the big jaws comes along

Biggest issue will be they will just end up as someone else’s failed dream

Disposing of boats at the end of life is quite a problem, it's pretty toxic to the environment i.e expensive. What can you recover? Some lead, assorted scrap metal and a bunch of worn out gear? There may be some money to be made but I'll take a guess that taxpayers will bear the bulk of the cost. Boats are big objects and unlike cars they dont have an easy disposal route.  Most people including me don't have a plan other than to sell and let it become someone else's dream/problem. Most of the boats on the list are probably not even saleable. Some could be worth rescuing, but why would you?

hmmm "no boat ownership registration in New Zealand"

more hmmmm "Some owners also "shirk their responsibilities" by claiming boats no longer belonged to them when called by AT." I couple of test cases would fix that on the balance of probabilities.

Remember the Harbour Master put all Mooring Licence fees up $50 a year to specifically fund the removal of abandon boats, so it good to see them taking action.
