there wont be a lot of water there from 3/4 onwards, plus the wharf is pretty rough to tie up to, you could anchor in the bay and dinghy into the boat club breakwater, use the pontoons to load into the dinghy. in a dinghy you should be good most of the tide

$2200 for a 12m Berth, an Abrupt failure is a bit of a stretch. rumor round the marina is they were told it needed doing 5+years ago. It just eventually got to the point that one one would touch it. Plenty of empty berths at Pine harbour and they are not worth anything to sell with opex being so high. Handy marina to be in if you live out south, but not much good to be said about the owner or how it is run.

or find the name of the rigger in Opua, there will be an old thread here somewhere that has the details, he has a lot of older furler parts. I have used him before to source obsolete parts including what you want, the chandlery up there may also know his contact details

I have replaced an Old VWC1200 with a newer VWC1500 maxwel winch, the old breaker was attached to a grey box that had this inside it. The to bigger screws had cable running to positive of house and start battery banks, and the smaller wires in the picture go to an accessories switch on the panel. Disconnect the main cables and everything is still working, so far have got nothing on what it is supposed to do. Would be around 1992 vintage i am guessing. I am thinking some form of battery switch to connect both banks together?

anyone out of their berth next Friday night (26th) who wants to loan it out for a few hours? probably be there from 6pm until 10pm then heading back home, 12m launch, normally berthed at Pine Harbour
-
Either swap for a berth in Bay of Islands over the same time or will be available to rent cheap for from late December until early Feb 2025, send me a PM and can work out the details, 12m at Pine harbour. Will need to have appropriate insurance and comply with the Marina rules

Who is going to buy our yachts and at what price?
Young Entertainer replied to a topic in MarineTalk
plenty of berths at pine harbour are now being rented at "cost" covering opex. There are plenty of empty berths. I have heard of people offering berths for sale super cheap to get out as opex it is so expensive. I guess at some point the market forces will determine if the pricing is correct. My understanding is that you can walk away and forfeit the berth which there must be owners considering, is that not possible at Hobsonville? -
wasnt there when we visited in Feb but was close, what was more surprising was no fuel, could not get resource consent, that is a lot of boats that have to travel for fuel

Works perfectly did have a new clutch abut 3 years ago, Lug c on the body has broken so we could no longer mount it on the bracket we had. If your mounting doesn't need this then it will work fine. $200

Advice on what weight carbon to use
Young Entertainer replied to Young Entertainer's topic in TechTalk
thanks for all the replies, will do some shopping and testing on scale models -
going to be starting the experimentation on building a rudder stock, rudder and centreboard for a Farr 3.7. Will get foam for the centreboard and rudder to create a shape first then cover with carbon, so question is what weight/type of carbon would you use? and how many layers. and the follow up question is what is the easiest/cheapest way to setup a vacumn bagging arrangement, any tips as i have heard it is the way to go with making these
-
my son is nearly done doing up an old Farr 3.7 and currently the sail he has is only just servicable, looking or a better option if any one has an old sail in the garage that is in better shape, can be funded with either cash or rum

Surplus to requirements, was retubed by Dolphin inflatables in 2019, not patches, but does lose air over a number of months, we used to pump it up once a season. Towing bridle and dinghy wheels, seat and set of wooden oars. $1500

Wind sensor - can anyone tell me what this is?
Young Entertainer replied to Nathan1000's topic in MarineTalk
if it is just the bearing then it is easily replaceable, undo the clip at the back to get the cable detached, then unclip the unit and bring it to the deck. undo the nut at the bottom and remove the bearing. It is most likely part number 213-10-038. Be careful removing the cable as they are very hard to source if you break it. But i have a brand new bearing still in the box which is surplus to requirements that i can sell to you for $100 (half what i paid for it and without the 3 week wait) -
Volvo Penta d1 MDI box vs BEP VSR vs Solar panel
Young Entertainer replied to ynot's topic in TechTalk
my MDI lasted 5hrs, after getting towed back in and some helpful advice from others with the same issue, i got Ovlov down to replace under warranty, they told me they had never seen it before, i let them know that google would disagree. What has always intrigued me is that they replaced my battery cables as part of the install, apparently it is recommend by Volvo. I was happy i had when it died as they did try to blame it on other things in the boat and i reminded them that they did the install an i agreed to all there recommendations. I had the "safety button" on alligator clips -
went back to man o war for the first time in a few year, 1 choice of beer only, $11 served in a can not even a glass, i think is taking the piss! literally. wont be emptying my wallet there in a hurry again, used to be a regular fixture on the boating calendar

Why does my boat have a backstay and "side" backstays?
Young Entertainer replied to Rgvkiwi's topic in TechTalk
the runners (backstays to the corners) will either terminate at the same height as the forestay, in which case they add forestay tension which should equal height and speed upwind of they terminate at the masthead in which case if you have a backstay as well then they are probably more about mast support when using masthead kites or gennakers -
have a TPU tubed inflatable that has developed a pin prick hole, manufacturer of the tubes has no TPU repair kits until the new year, so can i just buy an inflatable repair kit from burnsco? they seem to all be for pvc boats?
-
and if you need a compresssor or parts for one like the clutch good chance it is the same as used in all the forestry equipment, can be sourced for a quarter of the marine price. Forestaire are a good company in Rotorua, the receptionist there know more than most about the danfoss catalogue and replacement bits and generally had them on the shelf.

That is a pet peeve of mine, number of times I have been looking for something urgently and find it showing in stock on a website, only to ring and find it is in stock in Australia and would be shipped from there. In stock should mean I can drive to the shop and pick it up same day!

so it is more like you must get a WOF but the closet garage to AK will be in Hamilton. Westpark, Baywater, Pine harbour all owned by the same guy who must be rubbing his hands together now with the thought of the revenue coming his way. Having recently sold the boat and for the first time in 30 years not owing a boat that requires a marina or haulout I think i timed that about right, now to find a boat to race on where someone else pays all the bills....
-
not quite the same, they expect you to get a WOF, but then make so that there is only allowed to be 1 garage per 500km of road, bad luck if you live in AK and all WoFs will now be done in Tauranga. That would be a more reasonable comparison on the basis that from Westhaven it would be 2hrs to the closest haulout yard other than floating dock soon? Given Pine Harbour have reduced there hardstand space (and increased the prices accordingly)in recent years and there seems to be a lot less space at HMB now with the extensions where are people planning on doing the maintenance? yes you can g
