I found this mini documentary on Youtube and thought others might get some benefit from watching it also.

I had a call from NRC [Northland Regional Coucil] on Friday about my boat. They had conducted a dive on all the boats on the mooring field in the area [just off Onerahi] and my boat is classified as a 5 out of a maximum of 5 for growth. It was antifouled about 13 months ago with Altex NO.5, there is minimal slime on the water line. I am out at the boat twice a weekend at least every second if not every weekend weather permitting. I have only given the water line a scrap once. There are a lot of barnacles on her and its planned for her some come out late next autumn. Anyway, I wrote bullet poi

It's very hard to reply to a post like without out package dimensions, the weight of the package, location and is it FOB or require to be picked up to forward. Anyone replying to this will ask the ame questions a freight forwarder will

Can I get you to clarify this a little further, please? I just got lost when the mental images happened?!

At replacement time, are people replacing their wire rigging with Dyneema type rigging? Would you? What are the cons and pros? On paper, it seems like a no brainer.

Technically, is this still the case if sailing to Australia on an NZ passport?

Does anyone have any updates on more convenient flags of registry?

I now have two main sheets. I have three points of attachment. One in the middle of the cockpit and two close to each toe rail. I often just use one mainsheet attached to the point of attachment that is required. Sometimes two. But, I am so glad I got rid of the traveller and do not miss it one bit!

I would be cautious of this battery chemistry due to its constant current requirements during charging. This is too variable with solar and wind Imho. Lead carbon would be a safer bet.

I would ask Mainfreight, they are generally really good to deal with and happily quote.

What do you think of the Airmar & Maretron compass/heading sensors?

If it is not anodized. Wipe clean it with Acetone and it will remove the oxidised layer.

Okay...So keeping the Vang and having a Pad eye near the toe rail on port and starboard and in the centre of the cockpit, to attach my twin mainsheets to. Is a traveller still worth being a major cockpit obstruction for cruising?
-
What are peoples thoughts on a double mainsheet vs a traveller? For cruising, not racing purposes. With a double main sheet, you have some accidental jibe prevention. Do you need a vang? More cockpit space? What are the practical downsides?

Can you recall his name or company name?

Yes. I wonder if it is being dumped or it sold?

Is that the Malcolm Tennant cat, that came off the mooring in Auckland and grounded? It was forsale in Tauranga for a while?
-
Whangarei. But, I would still like ideas and suggestions....based on my questions so I can talk to the rigger and at least pretend to make informed decisions? Especially on the cutter rig idea and running rigging? Or just tell me I am over thinking it all and why?

I have a few questions about rigging. I am replacing the standing and running rigging on a Nebe Miura 31 http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=7591 Masthead sloop. The boom/mainsail foot, is about a foot longer than the designer specified. Furling 140% genoa [on its very last legs] There is a single forestay, twin backstays, on a single spreader mast, with common garden variety setup of cap shrouds and two lowers per side. With the standing rigging. I am currently thinking of replacing stainless wire rigging with the same. What are the local options? What is t

So if the magnetic poles flip, what does that mean for us yachties?
mcp replied to Zozza's topic in MarineTalk
Compass's reversed as mentioned. Some species would get cold, instead of warm. Turtles would get lost. Its happened a few times before. Interestingly enough, the climate has changed before too. True story. -
