  1. Very cool place ! Was there in 2000 and word got around there was a 6 metre tiger shark in the “lagoon” ….most of the locals jumped in to have a look
  2. Yep it’s a rip . Would far rather that $35 went into grassroots , regional youth sailing .
  3. I don’t know about demographics in other parts of the country but up here the fizz boat boom seems to be driven largely tradies . Our club is right next door to the local outboard boating club which is one of the three major launching areas in our modest sized “city” the value of the boats combined with the value of the vehicles launched there on a busy weekend would probably be equal to the value of the pointy end of Auckland’s racing keeler fleet

    Stack Packs

I’m not currently with my stack pack , but have just been reading this interesting discussion on sailing anarchy . https://forums.sailinganarchy.com/index.php?/topic/222005-mainsail-boompack-for-single-handed-racing/
  5. 1.2 million is super cheap for that many berths ….I thought it cost that much just to talk about expanding a marina
  6. Bit of a drift ….probably the most famous GOP yacht ever built
  7. And one of my daughter getting glamour photos . Pre start of the Route66 , photo by Ocean Patrice

  9. Looks like a beast , see how you go with it , we have tweakers for ours cause it really twists off as soon as you crack the sheets a bit . You should be able to match the wind speed up to about 6-7 knots and then start ripping stuff off the deck above that !
  10. The top is where it gets interesting . It’s going to have an 18ft skiff style box where it slots in from aft rather than a drop-in style box . Rudder will have a socket on top to plug a carbon tube tiller into , we have that system on the Shaw and love it . The idea is to be able to take rudder and tiller off at anchor or at the dock to free up cockpit space and prevent any expensive accidents after a few beersies . I couldn’t tell you the percentage of balance forward ...the pic shows the current rudder in blue , the Shaw 750 rudder in yellow and the new rudder in red which is way more f
  11. First step of the new rudder done .... aircraft wing style of construction . carbon foam sandwhich panel laid up in the garage then sent to the CNC dude . next step is to wrap it in some funky sh*t then tip in some 2 part expanding foam . The foam will be sanded back to the ribs and then then it will get skinned carbon . design and construction is being done by my mate Scott who is handy with a computer and carbon . Check his Ross 490 rebuild here on creworg and in boating Nz The rudder will be hanging off a second generation E780 that we are bringing into this century
  12. Scott tempesta from sailing anarchy haas bought it and he bought pionneer too as a restomod
  13. And aah , I did the above for inspection and they didn’t get inspected after a sleepless night hoping the new main would would pass !
  14. It’s actually a valid safety measure for most of the pacific and Caribbean plus med where there are small airstrips/airports often right on the shoreline with little or no air traffic control . Super yachts hang around these sorts of places waiting for guests or dropping them off . most owners wouldn’t give a rats whether the light was on or off or even up there .
  15. Had to change the bulb in one of those 3 times over the course of 6 months . Feckin scary job , 160ft mast with a 7ft wand on top with the masthead light on top of that wand . bosuns chair was crudely tied to my waist with sail ties so I could climb up onto masthead with it still stuck to my ass . Before climbing up you have to hang by one hand onto the wand and pull enough halyard out of the exit to allow you to stand up on the masthead . once up there and standing on a space just big enough for two feet you had to reach above your head at maximum stretch to unscrew the r
