  1. If you have the first aid stuff like the bandages etc already, Oceania will sell you just the drug component. I had the same situation as you - already had the first aid kit from burnsco for cat4/5 but needed to add the drugs for CAT3 Alternatively, if you have a tame GP some will write you a prescription for what you need. a lot more hassle though (and not really much cheaper)
  2. Maybe its still early for people, but 6 weeks out feeling like coastal entries are pretty quiet? 26 PHRF entries, 4 for short handed, 5 multis and 1 in the rally?
  3. yikes - Found my 2022 receipt which was $210, now $345 for CAT3 I feel like the checklist of stuff to upload is a bit sledgehammer to crack a walnut perhaps in that its trying to be generic across CAT1/2/3 - would be clearer to the average person if there was a different upload check list for each category.
  4. Has anyone managed to go through the 'new' CAT 3 process yet? Planning my application at the moment as I expire this year. It will be interesting to see what is actually required this round and how much discretion inspectors will have. I had thought that I would be all good with an update to my flares as the SRS I got the 2022 cert under are still valid. If we really have to upload as per below, its going to get interesting... - the example yacht manual is appendix 5 is a bit OTT for CAT3 surely? Only needed a plan of where stuff is, a MOB procedure and manuals last time -
  5. thanks. always found the engine room amazing to deal with when i had my bukh seems that Yanmar parts are more challenging. different distribution model maybe but i miss easy access to (albeit expensive) spares all in one place
  6. I know that this has probably been done to death, but is it really worth spending twice the price (ish - abouut 425 vs 720ish) on a stainless exhaust mixing elbow over the cast iron version? Its the u-shaped mixing elbow in my Yanmar 2YM-15.... this one https://www.firebirdmarine.co.nz/product/146775-yanmar-1-2-3gm-2-3qm-exhaust-mixing-elbow vs this one https://www.boatpartsnz.co.nz/product-page/exhaust-elbow-yanmar-gm-series need to replace my current cast iron one... TIA
  7. Thanks, Have a perfectly functioning one that I guess will find out if it is compliant it is next week when I get my insurance survey. Young 88 class
  8. Interestingly, I couldn't actually install a kero stove if i wanted to.... according to class rules... (d) Prior to 1st January 2006, a minimum two-burner stove with grill and/or oven in working order shall be permanently fitted with a gimballed fitting. With effect from 1st January 2006, as a minimum requirement, a two-burner LPG stove with grill and/or oven in working order shall be fitted permanently with a gimballed mounting and any dispensations given under rule 2.9 will cease to apply to this rule from that date.
  9. just did the lip seals, and two bearings on my 2ym15 raw water pump. was easy and cheap. use a press to get the bearings off the shaft, but just tapped the new ones one. hardest part was finding someone to sell me the parts locally, and pressing the old front bearing off which had corroded onto the shaft somewhat. got the seals, bearings etc here in the end https://www.lhmarine.co.nz/collections/johnson-pump
  10. was a great event last year - pity conditions meant we didn't make it to the barrier, but an awesome event from the RYC... would definitely bring the boat back down if it wasn't for that dirty four letter word starting with 'w'
  11. maybe a superyacht anchor if the omakiwi / rawhiti area is ground zero?
  12. Sorry may have misread the post. We have moss exemptions for our club owned chase boats
  13. you can apply for MOSS exemptions in this case - https://www.yachtingnz.org.nz/clubs/moss-exemption not an expert by any mean but our club as been through this. a few hoops to jump through but all possible
  14. have you seen the thread on sailing anarchy?
  15. Howdy.... anyone had any real world experience with one of these? https://vakaros.com/products/atlas2?gclid=CjwKCAjwo7iiBhAEEiwAsIxQEaQhS1LqxOZxxsVX2jB_FzAJ3XXAx1DR8e9v4Cp_N94hrHOvndfEyRoCEsIQAvD_BwE need to replace my speedo (the old navman s100 finally gave up). All I've got is a raymarine a series MFD downstairs with no network at all at the moment. Was thinking of adding a raymarine i70, but would also need to build a network to add it so ends up being reasonably cost neutral. I will add a speed transducer in time as well (probably the airmar dst810 with the wireless c
  16. I could be wrong, but had a funny feeling peidy's could get an exemption for lifelines as they are classic - that was a few years ago that I heard that so might have changed
  17. copied and pasted from the YNZ website.... link here: https://www.yachtingnz.org.nz/news/service-requirements-inflatable-lifejackets
  18. thought this was interesting from YNZ - something to consider (I hadn't) if needing a CAT 3 inspection - getting lifejackets serviced by an agent and needing the service certificate adds cost and complication (no argument from me that you need to be sure its going to work...) but a little more challenging for us in the regions The servicing of inflatable lifejackets can create some confusion, particularly when a yacht inspector asks for the current service certificate. The Safety Regulations of Sailing specify that all equipment must be serviced in accordance with the manufact
  19. we use Nautical Insurance who have been good to deal with - - no claims yet though, and previously Mariner who we did a claim through several year ago no problem. they were quite a bit more expensive when we got the new boat, hence the move to Nautical. two different boats, both on swing moorings at times, although now in an marina
  20. have just been through the same. Was going to be $550 to replace the batteries in my ACR global fix (arguably a better EPIRB with global coverage, not just NZ/OZ) for a 5 year battery. Instead purchased an Ocean Signal rescue-me for $399 with a 10 year battery. both with GPS etc. no brainer for what I need (sadly)
  21. I have the foam / sika setup on my Y88 with an SD20/2YM15 setup. Was like that when I brought it - had never had a sail drive before and got a bit of a fright when i pulled the boat out of the water the first time to find no boot. Has been like that since the engine was installed in '05. Got some advise, and used Sikaflex 291 as the sealant when I re did it. Seems to be fine, although getting a smooth finish was a bit challenging (but that's just me...). just antifouled over the top and seems OK 14 months later. We also have propspeed on the SD leg and its still in great nic after 1
