  1. I saw three at Cash Converters on Wairau Rd today and thought you lot might like to know. A 20amp and 30amp for $249 each A 50amp at $349
  2. I was in Jaycar Northshore yesterday and they had one that looked identical to that on special for $489 a think, down from $800ish.
  3. Make sure you check the local tide info as the tide heights can be quite different to the Auckland Datum thanks to the large water body of the Firth of Thames. I've seen the navionics tide chart say the Coromandel harbour tide to be -0.3m when the Auckland tide tables were +0.2m so there are times when there is a lot less water than you expect.
  4. Kevin Johnson boat builders from Devonport (but they can travel) is another good option.
  5. Me Too - but I lost 10 kg on the "Fijian Sailing Holiday Diet Program" I think the results were so successful due to me selecting the "food poisoning with your fish" option at the restaurant on the last night in Fiji, resulted in a 8 day "super detox" of no food! Thanks to David for the great trip and entertaining stories!
  6. Check out this blog of a family building a Schionning. They have a small genset hidden away and twin electric drives: http://www.catbuildingblog.com/the-electric-system-on-our-arrow-1200/ In their more recent posts, there are some discussions about how the system is working now that they have launched the boat.
  7. They may be 46kg dry but by the time you add oil and extra weight for long shaft - they get "busting a gut" heavy! Nice, smooth and quiet through.
  8. Good on them. I've been watching them from the start and they make great videos, although you have to endure their Aussie ascents! It would be interesting to know if they have been given the boat to own or on loan for as long as they want it? Its pretty clever from Outremer as they have 200K followers and many of them will be like me - a person aiming to be doing what they are doing and will need to buy a boat to do it in.

Crazy - That is our neighbour! We noticed she wasn't there on Saturday and commented that it was nice to see it actually leave the mooring Poor owners
  10. We recently managed to convince the Harbour Master to get our Neighbour removed at Northcote Point, so the process can work. What we did to get some action: Emailed the HM photos of the badly run down boat. They reply saying they will check. 6 months later, repeat with updated photos. 6 months later repeat with updated photos Get other neighbouring mooring owners to email the harbour master too. Find the mooring chain about to wear through, send email to harbour master with photos. Get other mooring owners to voice their concern. This finally prompted some action and the harbour master ser
  11. Sweet, Welcome to the 8.5m class - Where are you going to keep her?
  12. Must to time to upgrade Voom to a be a "Sports Deck" GBE.
  13. Funny - When Truxton knocked the port bow off Freedom in the SSANZ race last year, I called them up on the VHF to organise a tow home. With the amount of VHF traffic from the SSANZ race, we couldn't get a clear message through and eventually I gave up and called them on the cellphone. They were very glad to get the phone call as all they had got from our VHF conversation was that two boats had collided, one had significant damage and the situation was unknown about the other boat. They were about to unleash the full flotilla to get to the area ASAP to figure out what was going on. In reali
  14. If anyone can do it, it'll be the C-Tech team! They stuck High-n-Fibres carbon rig back together for me and are the gurus at Carbon masts for boats up to your size.
  15. My Dad is travelling the world in a campervan - currently in Europe in his Aussie Campervan. Their only form of heating, other than the van engine when travelling, is a 12v Elevtric Blanket for the bed and they swear by it.
  16. Those guys have one interesting Facebook page! Lots of interesting salvages and boat re-building photos. This poor lagoon is dramatic - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.909327772439845.1073741922.125191620853468&type=3
  17. Ahhh, the rudderless piedy from Whangaparoa. Awesome work to whoever did that restoration!
  18. What boat did Rat Bags used to be?
  19. How many Piedys are entered Marshy? I can't believe I'm still racing these things!
  20. Looks like Hupane the Class 40 is heading home too. Just come past Rangi Light.
  21. One thing we have learnt is to not tie the line that holds the prod up onto the seagull striker, but to the forestay and with a small weak link of rope as a fuse. One day, you going to mess up a kite drop and its going to fall in the water, at which point the prod is going to have a lot of down force on it. The last thing you want is for it to bend the seagull striker forwards. If its tied to the forestay, then it will hold up better until the load is huge, at which point the little bit of rope breaks the the prod falls of and will drag in between the hulls from the water stays. We're jus
  22. What we did on High-n-Fibre was take a bit of 8mm covered (to help prevent chaff) spectra, poke it in through the hole left above at the t-bar once it is in, right through the mast and out the other side, through the hole on the top of the other t-bar fitting. We then tied a stopper knot in the end through the mast and splice a ring on the other end about a meter down. Repeat for the other side. Simple, light and strong. Ed's right about the fact that these fittings are inspected often due to the mast be dropped for trailering, meaning things don't have to be the "perfect, permanent soluti
  23. The Westhaven boat ramp floating docks are "public docks." They are a little shallow at low tide for keelers but no issue at all for the GBE.
