  1. Mines in the head, which has a door. That is not a living area is it?
  2. I agree - and If you don't get any explanation, you should pay whatever you feel is fair, and don't give him any explanation for why you paid what you paid!
  3. What is the deal with 'borrowing' moorings like this for a short term (ie not leaving the boat), Ok to pick up an empty one to stop for lunch? What about a snooze overnight? Obviously, you'd have to move when the owner comes along.. Is there some sorta unwritten rule?
  4. This week I passed an ICC assessment so apparently, I'm competent enough to charter a yacht overseas. Anybody got any good charter stories/tips/contacts from Croatia?

    DIY autopilot

Oh its not. Its going to involve some hackery driving relays etc to the hacked open tiller pilot b&g want me to buy their spenny actuator

    DIY autopilot

This is a cool project. I've been considering going the other way. I want the expensive B&G autopilot computer, but i want the same cheap tiller pilot actuator. I think the b&g unit just has relay outputs , one for each direction of rudder. I've been considering wiring these up to a butchered tiller pilot with DIY rudder feedback like you've done That way I get their fancy tech for control (can control AP from Chartplotter or wireless remote) but with an affordable actuator (old tillerpilot)

    Dirty Rib

I don't know the answer, but I recently had my hull reglued to the tubes on my rib. It came back incredibly clean. I guess they have to do a good clean to make things stick, but this thing really looks like new. I should have asked them what they used
  8. Hi TwoSail that boat (la vagabonde) is on the hard in Whangarei. I chatted to Riley & Elayne last month when they were here. They indicated they would sell it here or possibly raffle it off. I suspect you will hear very soon their plans for that boat. Here is a list of the same model for sale (Cyclades 43.4) http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/category/type/Beneteau/Cyclades+43.4

    LED lighting

Sounds like you are describing 'Czone' or other NMEA2000 switching systems. NMEA-2000 after all, is actually CAN bus. The BEP Czone stuff is kiwi designed.. Looks awesome, until you see the price.

    LED lighting

I have put the opti up my mast recently and swapped out the fat dc cable with some which was maybe 1/4 the Gauge. Its absolutely tiny. Ill go look what awg it is. This is at 12v with no issues. Those optis will produce the same light output down to 9v or so

    LED lighting

http://misystems.co.nz/low-voltage-lighting/interior-led-lighting/ Saw these guys at a boat show once. they have some good stuff. they do the exterior lights on all the st johns ambulances. No idea on costs tho I like the look of that hella euro but would love one that does red as well as white
  12. weekend achievements - I took the boat out in darkness for the first time. Motoring only. Anchored in the dark. Didn't hit anything! Had three sets of eyes keeping lookout and AIS, felt like I could have done with a hundred more. The lights in the harbour are so busy!
  13. I spent the night on the boat in westhaven last night. What a night. The gusts were heeling the boat enough to spill my drink and knock things over..
  14. Is this not great news? Now they will be after those pesky ferrries and their dangerous waves!

    Tablet charging

This is correct Chris. Sometimes they can be fooled with a resistor of the correct value across the correct pins of the USB.. EG : http://www.instructables.com/id/Cheap-and-simple-USB-car-fast-charger-mod/ However it seems that Samsung/ Apple/ et all are all doing things their own way - so you'll need to find the correct method of tricking it for your particular device. One answer is perhaps just get a tiny inverter only big enough for your charger (or two) like a 150W job.. plug your AC charger in here. It will use more power than the equiv DC-DC, but at least it is plug
  16. There is one next to me for sale. Look pretty spiffy Squid Vicious - on tardme at the moment.
  17. I got quotes or estimates from the boat yard, addedd 10% for the inconvenience and asked if the vendor wanted to rectify or you would adjust the offer to cover it. And be happy with either outcome
  18. Nice bike. If i was getting another i think a tourer or adventure tourer would be the go.
  19. What sorta bike you got KM? I miss my old bike
  20. Yeah. I'm pretty sure I need to replace the other 3 - they are all pretty old and tired and who knows what state the rubber is in. This one is slotted one end and holed at the other. Still a bit of wiggle room in the hole end too. I've just looked up the part number the yanmar man sold me and online it seems to be referred to as a 'Rear' engine mount.. I've stuck it in the front! Think that matters? at $330odd each, I was not in a hurry to do all four
  21. Busy weekend for me I replaced an engine mount.. now how to align the thing properly?! Removed some oil (appears I over-filled) and replaced a (mildly) worn shackle.

    Dock lines

Because during the previous couple of weeks I've been into most of the big name swindlery's looking for this sort of information, and there was none forthcoming. Consequently, KM will now receive my business.
