  1. At a very quick look, Vodafone 01:01:02 in 2014 and Giacomo 1:22:06 a year earlier for Kawau.
  2. Most of the offshore rating systems (IRC, ORC etc) put them about 1-2% slower than a Mumm 30. Kohara in Tauranga looks very fast, think they're 2 and 2 versus Frenzy at the moment. Niksen in Auckland as said early days and only done races that wouldn't really suit the boat. Think they've entered the squaddy twilights with the 930s, J88, Tigga and ourselves so expect we'll have a better idea of how and when they go at the end of the season. Can't argue with the price though, accepted you may want to spend more on sail and one or two other upgrades but it has to be a third of the cost of any
  3. I think Niksen's new but that's very dodgy speculation, too dodgy to be publicly repeated.
  4. correct, Kohara in Tauranga and Niksen in Auckland, has done the last of the Lewmar races and three rum races.

    Wright 11

Don't think she's an Oceans, think same hull as Tuxedo Junction, Quiet Riot et al. A well sailed 1220 would have the Wright 11 in breeze, even or a slight edge to the Wright in the light.
  6. What a cool, and somewhat diverse fleet. Think for the moment the SSANZ folk can lay claim to having the biggest keeler/multi event in the country, though I'm sure the CC people plan on relieving them of that burden.
  7. 120+ boats tacking upwind within confines of Auckland harbour, maybe 75% racing. You pretty much can't avoid being within 50m of someone or 200m of shore. Incoming tide so of course everyone hhugs the sides
  8. Sorry Zozza, my bad wording. H28 was an example of a slow boat which I thought would still break technical regs not you particularly. Even so, cruiser I had in mind was probably different as it sounds like it was going a bit quicker.
  9. Can't completely agree Island Time, I was out Saturday, know the conditions and fairly sure I have the cruiser in question figured. There was 8-10kts breeze with very slow oscilations between about 80 and 105, for a Weta (think I saw it was a Weta somewhere), bearing away without easing would have been easy. Risks were pretty much limited to plain bad helming on the part of the dipping boat and a rudder/tiller breakage at a very wrong moment. Agree still a bit closer than is really necessary (I'm not at all sure the multi was even racing) but, well if you're into close dips, Saturday was
  10. 40ft Farr design, must be like a Farr 40, surely. Maybe the odd extra creature comfort but that would just keep the crew at a higher peak of efficiency, so maybe a bit better than the average Farr 40 what with that extra efficiency and all

    Ross 930 Polars?

Now updated. My those 930s are quick, best hope no handicappers are looking at this.

    Ross 930 Polars?

Think the upwind and downwind boat speed is VMG Splat, they look pretty close for that. Think I have the maths lying around somewhere so will hunt it out and update to include both.

    Ross 930 Polars?

Only data I have is from a couple of Canadian 930s in ORC scoring tables, not perfect for loading into instruments but should be a reasonable starting point for you. Can't upload an xls so try link http://www.racetrack.org.nz/XLS/ross930.xlsx
  15. Have to say DF my first thought on reading that was on the lines of "shouldn't SeaLink be adapting to the existing Westhaven users not the other way around".
  16. Think Public Image is a different hull shape to the Wild Thing shape. Sold but still in Whangaparoa area I believe.
  17. From what I know , Rocket 31s: - Oldsmobile at Waikawa - Positive Touch in New Cal - Also Party Time in New Cal - Kaos and two or three others in Aus - Camp Freddie (extended slightly) in UK - Zapata in Europe - Mayhem Plus in UK - TEOTYL, French registered ORC but that could be New Cal or France Young 8.4s : - R n B and What's News, AKL - Correct with Wild Thing, think the upgrade included a wing mast, now in Tasman Bay - Blue Dude New Cal - YoungStar Sydney - Gambit, Hong Kong Know of only one Buckle Up which was a Rocket 40 in Aus, the Aussies worship it
  18. Yes, PT in New Cal. A few in Aus but don't think they had the same pace as the Kiwi ones
  19. BP, last PHRF cert had Black Panther LWL at 14.5
  20. or for LWL of 14.5m, 6.9kts with hull speed 9.24 if that helps

    Moving to NZ

Hi Manic76, NZ, at least in the view of most here, is rather blessed with good designers, though tend to orient towards designing for good sailing characteristics and performance rather than live aboard comfort. Farr and Davidson you're likely familiar with, personally think Farrs late 80s designs were stronger but in part that reflects a trend at that time towards a better understanding of foil shapes and consequent improvement in handling characteristics. For the time period you've mentioned, Farr was probably mostly doing performance boats so probably not what you're looking for. Of the
  22. Would expect 3,900 isn't far off the mark, four in the ORC database and only XLR8 isn't within 100kg of that. Very vague memory is that XLR8 is a bit of a different 10.5

    Young 11

I believe 10.96 if you're in New Zealand, 10.94 if you measure them in Noumea. They must shrink as you get closer to the equator or something.

    GPS to fail

True, but very misleading in the way it's presented. Some very old GPS receiver chips have a date calculation based issue whereby the chip can only support dates up until sometime in about two years or so. These units may have problems from that point on. So, GPS will fail not really, some old GPS receivers yes, probably.
  25. Be a little surprised if there was any E swell in three days. Certainly wouldn't think there'd be enough to be a problem in Whangamumu. My experience has been it takes a good 2m swell before you can't find some shelter that's acceptable (as distinct from good) in there.
