  1. Its on again 11 April 24, Unfortunately the organisers seem to have ignored the feedback and most yachts will go around under the cover of darkness with the same sort of start time as last time!!
  2. MMM Tropical -almost forgotten what that is like.
  3. Had some fresh Snapper from this side of the Barrier this week, they were large fish (long) but not what I would call (in trout terms) good condition -slabby and thinnish with almost milky flesh .....
  4. Absolutely back up everything IT has said , having seen the results of two aborted power craft deliveries across the Tasman , that I chose not to be involved in (as the most qualified) it is a passage to be taken seriously.
  5. Did they shorten the courses? saw some coming home from the waterfront but it wasnt obvious (whilst driving) where the finish was.
  6. Adam at Ovlov Gulf Harbour knows his way around them.
  7. No grease, just sealant behind the bearing housing -and a small amount on the threads.
  8. Yes the shafts -particularly on the 34's and 36's are quite long, Chatfield do make a replacement seal for the admiralty pattern gland that you will have -which contains a support bearing and a hose tail to take the seal which then can float on the shaft -this is the right way to go if you are keeping the copper stern tube -and if you have the room in front of the where the existing gland was to fit it all. Otherwise you can fit a glass stern tube as I have to four Townson yachts , be careful of where the keel bolts are when boring to get to clean timber, these have the advantage of never
  9. Because it is a lot easier to replace the cutless bearing with it on the bench and not having to let go the shaft and draw it, which can often be a problem (clearing the skeg for example) Multi skin Townson yachts are not always wet down there if they have been glassed. Yes I have worked on one or two...
  10. Correct wasnt the house Chard, that is a bit severe.
  11. Yes that is a standard cutless housing, should be threaded on to a copper stern tube, of course the lag screws will have to be wound out to allow removal.
  12. Laughable -when those that know how wide spread it is already will ignore it , and the rest in blissful ignorance will ignore it too.
  13. There seem to be a lot of unasked questions around this story, all we know is that he ran into rough weather and that knocked out his GPS, no idea why he stopped sailing and just drifted in his Wharram ? getting hungrier and hungrier...
  14. Any updates ? I couldnt make it
  15. Yes he is known to many around the waterfront , Re NZL20 as a viewing platform like Cloudbreak she will need a much larger anchor set up, and no one has told them that to be self propelled there is no where to bolt the outboard!!
  16. There are a couple of NZ clubs interested ......
  17. Those Stewart sailors arent buying enough rum over the bar ! Seriously though two glasses of Chardonnet last week at members pricing $35.00 and they wonder why we drink on board. Buy a round of drinks for the crew $70-80 and if we won - you get a $38.00 bottle of rum you do the maths.
  18. Well AT has paid NZ Bus a top up to enable them to pay the Auckland drivers the same hourly rate as Wellington Christchurch and Dunedin drivers get but NZ bus has decided to pocket the money.
  19. Doesnt look that tropical, 😉hang on is that a drop of calerpa I can see at Gulf Harbour.....
  20. Kawau bay is the latest and the men from the ministry are taking immediate action haha. Wait, if we do get a summer here again I for one will be ignoring them and I cant see anyone else taking much notice.
  21. this current year 40% of trips cancelled!
  22. I had an interesting one many years ago -approaching the gate off the tamaki river in a tug towing a barge at 10pm fully dark, showing correct lights a subritzky (now Sealink) car ferry came straight for us on an opposing course heading out to Waiheke (there was plenty of depth) they kept on towards us despite me making a radical turn off course to avoid them and calling on the VHF , meanwhile I was buzzing my sleeping crew up from down below on the emergency horn and signalling by horn to them -as they swept by I could see straight into the wheelhouse -where they were watching TV!! Their
  23. I give it a hell waterblast and the rest falls off, achieves two things , a good fresh water rinse-so that it drys properly and the new paint totally adheres -and no build up going forward, aim for every two years-but last time got three (Westhaven) works even better in the mixed water of Wairau Cove.
