  1. So does this mean that Professional Skipper magazine is full of gossip, unfounded allegations, and fake news?
  2. They are under way again, now off North Cape doing 7.6 knots https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/home/centerx:173.7/centery:-34.3/zoom:10 Guilty pleas in stranded bulk carrier case The master and chief engineer of the MV Funing have pleaded guilty to charges laid against them by Maritime NZ. 40' Boats

Best to contact the marina. It may depend on the boat. Westhaven are getting quite strict about lengths and overhangs. But they may still let a Farr1020 into a 10m berth. However there are no 10m or 12m berths available at Westhaven at the moment. You may have to go on a waiting list for many months, or rent privately (see Trade Me).

  7. Yeah both parties are suing each other. And Mayo and Calder claim they are still running the Challenger series for Luna Rossa. This isn't over yet!
  8. Vic, have a look at the top of the screen in crew.org. There is a bell icon, and an envelope icon. Click those. You may also have received an email.

    B&G gear

There was a guy called Craig who spoke at the Coastal Classic clinic. Knew his stuff. Was representing B&G, so maybe from Navico?
  10. America's Cup allegations: Audit finds no wrongdoing at Team NZ ACE considered the $6.4m of work done by the team to create the AC75 class rule was a legitimate event expense, and the $3m contribution of event money was in line with the MBIE contract. Beattie Varley in its final report, and Team New Zealand in July, both noted that the team and ACE had stopped providing information on June 9. The auditors said from July 9, a significant volume of additional information came from ACE. “Had we received this information in April or May, we would not have needed to raise many o
  11. 'No evidence of financial impropriety': Probe into America's Cup funding released The report has found: • there was no loan from ACE to ETNZ, • there was no fraud by ACE or ETNZ, • that no personal expenses of TNZ boss Grant Dalton or any other personnel were paid from Crown monies, • that there has been no financial impropriety of any nature. But a $3 million contribution to Team NZ by America's Cup Limited (ACE) will go to mediation with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=1

  13. No, SSANZ has stated there are no other weekends available. We can't race on Saturday or Sunday due to level 3 rules, so race 3 will be abandoned. We could probably comply with social distancing, and number of people in a bubble, but under level 3 sailing is not allowed.
  14. So the dodgy couple that stole the 14m Birdsall 'Harlech' from Opua 5 years ago and sailed it to Australia, have finally been brought to justice. Paul Bennett was convicted and sentenced to 38 months imprisonment last month. https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/122184151/conman-paul-bennett-pleads-guilty-to-580000-worth-of-fraud-charges Simone Wright found guilty on seven charges and awaiting sentence. https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/122491027/conmans-exwife-found-guilty-of-duping-online-buyers
  15. So the boat rolled quickly and they were left hanging onto the submerged hull. Their biggest problem was that they had no means of communication. If they had a handheld VHF on their person, or flares in a grab bag they may have been able to attract attention a lot quicker.
  16. The sight of a boat running into a whale off Raglan's coast has been called “disgusting” by a whale researcher. Two southern right whales, a mother and its calf, were seen moving past Manu Bay and near Ngarunui Beach on Saturday afternoon. Stuff has seen two videos of the incident. In the first, the fishing boat approaches very close to one of the surfacing whales. Then rather than turn away from the whale, the boat runs into it. https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/122463228/video-shows-boat-running-into-southern-right-whale-in-raglan
  17. Enjoy your 2 week hotel/prison stay courtesy of the NZ government!
  18. Three men have been safely rescued after the small boat they were in capsized, but the family dog – who was also onboard – did not survive after becoming trapped underneath. The trio was “bobbing” up and down in the Wellington Harbour shouted at a passing ferry to throw them some life jackets, an eyewitness claims. https://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/wellington/122400576/trio-rescued-but-family-dog-dies-in-wellington-harbour-capsizing
  19. I am guessing this will be postponed. Let us know when it is rescheduled.
  20. Well done Glen. Safest to be back home at this time.

    Larry Pardey

They sold Taleisin around 5 years ago.
  22. Their 6-metre stabicraft had hit a moored 18-metre mussel harvester, Waide said. They were about 30 metres from the shore at low tide, he said. “Basically what happened was the guys were coming in at night after dark, and they crashed into a moored vessel out in Okiwi Bay itself,” he said. https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/122268420/lower-moutere-man-named-as-victim-of-okiwi-bay-boating-incident Looks like they were doing more than 5 knots less than 200 metres from shore. Are there different speed limits in the Marlborough Sounds?

    American Magic

Yes and another American team, want to use one TeamNZ's old boat. But wouldn't that break the rules of country of origin, as per deed of gift? https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/sport/2020/07/america-s-cup-2021-stars-stripes-seek-team-nz-boat-for-challenger-series.html?fbclid=IwAR33H1SIw_LeJeh8F-bVfOnp5h40qyGrFxGWTYzIoADFImBNs87B1RXfAr8
