Peak draw only, not sustained. But probably not something you'd want your boat system trying to cope with!
-
https://www.trademe.co.nz/3426069003 I won't pass judgement on the aesthetics, but will give you an idea.

Our sparky told me not long ago that new (home) induction cooktops can draw 40a (@230V). Pretty hard to manage on a boat! Newer boats do seem to have electric cooking arrangements, to my surprise. But even with 1-2kw of solar I think really you'd be relying a lot on the genset to get those batteries charged. Really you're starting to look at boat systems which rival off-grid home systems, and you'd really struggle with 2kw solar for the sort of mod cons these boats are expecting.

10 years ago we bought a boat with such a dodgy gas arrangement that the very first thing we did was take the bottle off the boat. Proper modern installations don't bother me though.
-
Pretty sure it had overstayed its welcome there years ago. But somehow these things have a way of dragging on.

Usually when chainsaw meets boat it's not in the water though!

Wow. Amazing shots.
-
Pretty amazing. Imagine trying to anchor somewhere with 12m tides!
-
That's dedication, spending the night on an exposed mooring in a blow.

I really hope they weren't dumb enough to assume that liability.
-
Yuck. Reflects very badly on the owners, of course, but imo the hm should not have allowed it to get to this point.
-
Surely not. Watercare charges are ~$2/kL (plus wastewater). So at a guess I'd say 1 unit = 1 kL.
-
Indeed. Just anchor unattended in matiatia in a northerly blow and wait 6 weeks. Problem solved, apparently.
-
I can't imagine anyone sinking the $ into getting her sailing again. Would have to be someone with deep pockets and a deep connection this boat, and surely any such person would already have stepped in.

It's not gone. Now it's just a mess.
-
ouch. bridgedeck cat isn't a cheap thing to have go walkabout.

I'd think you're going to have a hard time finding people selling 20k boats who are going to agree to this... -
not in the free version though, worth noting.
-
The irony will be that by the time the HM does pull the trigger and scrap it, everything of value will be gone and so they'll get nothing in return. Whereas if they'd done it ASAP there might still have been some value there. I hope I'm wrong and it ends up off the rocks as a playground.
-
I reckon that must be right. And I guess the hm must imagine that there's some chance the plan will eventually make the boat go away.

How long? If you ask around at some of the club hardstands (e.g. devonport) you might find someone willing to rent you one. But I'd imagine you'd have better luck with that if you're going to be done before next winter's haulouts. -
I heard this was happening. Doesn't seem like a particularly good sign for the health of the class. I know nothing about the mast placement kerfuffle, other than to say that it sounds like exactly the sort of thing that can really put people off and hurt a class scene.

"boat" and "financially prudent" don't really belong together in the same sentence.
