Fish 0
Digger stuck in the mud up to near the top of its cab, apparently hired by the Little Shoal Bay Boat Owners Association. Hired from Porter Hire to retrieve a 4WD. I'm hoping someone has appropriate insurance in place... https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/116973402/little-shoal-bay-digger-stuck-in-the-mud-at-popular-auckland-beach
harrytom 575
Most alarming is no report on the fuel that would be leaked.
Ex Machina 312
Bit of a habit they’ve got there . They drowned their caterpillar traxcavator a few years back hauling a boat out
erice 731
afaik as could be expected the volunteer committee are slowly working through the multiple issues
ex TL systems 63
Looks like it will make a pretty secure mooring for someone
philstar 61
It obviously got caught by rising sea levels caused by climate change. They should have seen this coming Little Shoal bay is absolutely riven by sea level rises and climate change. The science is settled !!
MarkMT 68
Oh no!! It's "interrupting views to the Harbour Bridge"! https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/402096/digger-stuck-in-the-mud-for-four-days-on-auckland-beach
erice 731
after that story i hope there aren't any accidents on the bridge
harrytom 575
This would of been so easy to resolve had the Ports of AK still had in operation the floating crane "Hikinui" float in high tide and lift out at low tide job done ! Back in the TV1 news tonight.
Fish 0
The headline to this follow up story says a lot I think... Little Shoal Bay digger stuck in mud can't be moved because permits needed https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/117077151/little-shoal-bay-digger-stuck-in-mud-cant-be-moved-because-permits-needed
Priscilla II 343
Crikey this has turned into a seventh movement symphony, and what a pack of neurotic moaning dribblers those Little Shoal Bay residents are. Unfortunately this incident may well fuel the fire for the hard stand haul out facility to be removed like the one under the harbour bridge. Couple that with demise of Okahu and the Devonport thinning one must wonder about the future of mooring and maintaining yachts outside the commercial interests. harrytom 575
Yet on tv1 news last night ,permits were not required.
wheels 543
It's not quite as bad as the Stuff headline suggests. It is now a typical problem with Stuff. I have gone right off them...errr...it. Simply, some heavy gear is going to be trucked up from Hamilton. Like moving anything oversize on the Roads in NZ, it requires permits. Standard practice. Then there is the normal OSH and public safety stuff that will have to be carried out down on the beach area.

tuffyluffy 76
I'm just wondering if marine salvage laws apply to a beached digger? Hypothetically speaking, if you rowed over to it, tied a line to it, could you call it yours?

Bad Kitty 217
I'm just wondering if marine salvage laws apply to a beached digger? Hypothetically speaking, if you rowed over to it, tied a line to it, could you call it yours? Marine salvage laws have never said that if you put a line on something on a beach it's yours. But I guess if you want to pay to salvage a useless steel sculpture from an Auckland beach you could give it a go!
180S 20
I reckon they should leave it there. Would make a great swimming hole.
DrWatson 331
Claiming salvage has to be +200 miles out, no? Just like you can't claim someone's boat if it washes up on the beach.
