  1. And how long do you t think the rudder is going to stay attached???
  2. If access to the spot is easy use a hot air gun and heat weld them back together with that. Blast both surfaces to be rejoined with the heat gun until the surface goes very soft, then press the two faces together and squish. For that step I use a hard roller. The material can take quite a lot of heat before melting or bursting into flames, it gives off smoke long before the flame part. Practice first. If you are in AKL I can send you some pvc off cuts to practice with if you like. If you are feeling confident you can also use hot air to soften the glue and open and close seams so patches ca
  3. Shark V Octopus, that brings to mind this nature documentary BP....
  4. Your rig is around the same height as the VB Tim, Im keen to come too but you go first.
  5. What you need is called dry-pore foam, it doesn't hold water but is eye wateringly expensive. Looks like this... another option is to use a PE foam like this... Its cheaper and floats. This is what i used for all of my outdoor squabs and while firmer than the Dri-pore there has yet to be a complaint lodged about the comfort levels.
  6. Yes but the harbour master doesn't carry the appropriate warrants to actually arrest you, they will have to make the call to shore and get plod to come and cuff you up, unless of course they have one with them at the time. Just say nothing, as is part of your rights. Also a fisheries officer has the appropriate ministerial warrant to arrest if required so don't f**k with them.
  7. Yam do make a manual start 9.9 hi thrust, I had one on a previous boat. They just don't bring them in to NZ unless you place a special order and then wait for their next shipment, unless you want to pay the airfreight.
  8. They sound like new too - with new pawls, springs and a small smattering of clean grease.
  9. $260, I I had to strip and degrease them and give him just the drums and top bits
  10. Well its not exactly a weekend achievement but an achievement none the less. As part of the VB refurb programme Ive pulled the headsail winches to bits and refurbed their interior workings, and I have just today picked up the drums after having them stripped and replated. Just like new again, thanks North Harbour Metal Polishers. Definitely not a paid endorsement, just recognition of excellent service. Heres a before an after.
  11. Well that was easy, 6 days after ordering I get back home to find a packet of winch pawls in the letterbox!! Scottie and RJP, see you over the weekend.
  12. I've sent you a PM rjp, any other takers for these as I'm ordering on Thursday morning.
  13. Nigel at Bayswater Marina is very good, does all my stuff and can even arrange visits to boats on moorings. http://www.marineservicing.co.nz
  14. ...because us quiet multihull people never do loud obtrusive stuff like them!
  15. There fixed, that's what you were really thinking eh, justified in my opinion too. reduces reoffending rates by 100%. Firm but fair!!
  16. I will pull the sail plan out in the morning and report back with a PM. The sail Eric refers to is elliptical and not a square top though. It also needs battens
  17. There isn't a bog standard Piliington GBE centreboard, they were made in a steel clamp up mold with a central spar/spacer thingy in them and then had the centreboard built around the finished board - they varied In chord - A LOT. And this is what Voom, whoi etc are dealing with. What fits one boat may or may not fit another. Your best option is to get the molds from Tim W and make another one at least then you will know it fits the inserts in your existing CB cases.
  18. Cool i'll give you a call. While we are ordering does anyone else need any?
  19. So Ive got the VB out of the water doing annual maintenance and thought I would strip the headsail winches and give them a clean out and find why they were clunky to operate - turns out they were full of old hardened grease and were both missing one pawl. So question is now - where does one get pawls and springs for a Masport Barlow 28?
  20. I know this boat well, the owner is a very good friend of mine. if anyone has any questions I can probably help.
  21. This bit. I have been a member for ever and have only had one occasion when I actually needed their help, the quickest and easiest means to talk to them was over the phone and despite me explaining very carefully where we were and what was happening they insisted I call on the VHF and do it over again. And even after that they still went to the wrong place.
  22. What would (could) you do with this? You'll have to imagine it's about two feet long and the pieces intercept at 90°.... How about crucifying midgets?
  23. Something like this, we have got one at each helm station. It rotates inside against the wall when not being used or right outside when required. Its a basic LCD TV bracket from The Appliance Shed, $90 bucks or so.
